The proposed timing of October will ruin it IMO.

I know they have to fit in with BSB (to some extent), and of course the TT, but if this is your once a year treat and you've booked accommodation, travel etc. and the races get washed out or you are stood in the freezing cold for hours and it doesn't go ahead its not going to get off the ground.

A lot of the success of the IoM TT is the weather.

You're right and my feelings are purely anecdotal but our "summer" does seem to have shifted a bit in recent years and it feels like we get a lot more decent weather in September and October...it's still Britain however, so it could lash down at any time!! biggrin

Will be getting onboard (the ferry) for this. I hope this brings in some top talent and machinery and is a success.

Been a lot of chat about this on other forums too. Could be fun, and might be a more accessible race for UK mainland fans in the south / south east.

Short ferry over to IOW (or the hovercraft!) too.

Isn't the IoW ferry the most expensive per mile of any ferry?

I'm really surprised but please that this is on the cards. I think October may be a challenge and it won't have the appeal of the no speed limit mountain road for spectators but I'm sure it'll attract a crowd just the same. Let's hope there aren't too many dheads with loud pipes and an unstoppable attraction to the scenery at the side of the road as that'll just upset the locals and stir up the NIMBYs

Expensive if taking a car or bike, but it's about 15 quid on foot or by cycle. Although we've taken the car across for 60 quid return first May Bank Holiday for the last 2 years for a cycle event as they have an offer on Red Funnel.

No hope of this, not even Bob!

Isle of Wight isn’t the biggest fan of vehicles, draconian speed limits. Plus, the weather out in the English Channel in October....lol!

IOM helping with this as it will make their decision to cancel the TT for the foreseeable, or at least allow no tourists to come watch it, more easy.
But there’s no way this will be allowed to go ahead.

I thought the IoM’s cancellation “for the foreseeable” referred to coronavirus (this year)? But the IoW’s proposed road race is for next year.

IOW council have already supported it haven't they? Seems quite far advanced having watched the full Bennetts video yesterday.

You want scary roads on an island?

Visit Arran; no speed cameras, no traffic plod, decent beer, friendly locals.

Kind of sped up a bit, but you get the idea:

The event yes but arguably not the atmosphere. You obviously need rules for the public and their bikes and you do get idiots in the IoM but I think the sentiment here is that the council and possibly most locals won’t want any fun to be had.

I’d love it to work but there are just too many issues making it look like a one off at best.

Do you think the TT will go on in 2021, in it's normal guise? The very best we can hope for is it goes on in a limited capacity with no tourist visitors, for TV and sponsors only, but that's not certain as a lot of IMO residents support it because of the tourist money it brings in.
As IOM enters the 71st day Covid free, and they can all go about their day to day business with confidence they wont catch it, we have areas of Manchester on increased restrictions because of people taking the piss, pubs breaching rules etc etc, and had 850 cases odd yesterday....Spain with big spikes, Belgium, Germany also having problems and France on the up.....why would IOM want to import all those potential problems.
For IOM to open up to tourism, it will need to be very baby steps, they are doing something with Guernsey now, talk of links to Ireland but spikes there causing reticence...I cannot see a population of what, 35k, being happy with their numbers doubling and then some with people from all over the world next May, then sorting out the inevitable fall out for another period of lockdown.
I just can't see it.
Will the TT happen next year, unlikely as a "normal" TT. But maybe some road racing, with distancing, isolation and quarantining of the teams etc, maybe? Don't hold your breath though!

They don't need speed cameras or plod because most people aren't daft enough to go to the island to speed through rural communities.

All Scottish Islands I've seen are the same, there's only hand full of fast roads, and they're shared by everyone and their dog.

Your best bet on these Islands is an adventure bike and pissing around on the beach, old peat roads, accesses etc. Take your time and enjoy the scenery.

There's more opportunities for spirited riding on the mainland.
