I'm hoping someone can help me with a reasonably simple (I hope!) question.

My personal accountant has retired and has not made any recommendations for a replacement to any of her clients. In my case, the work she did for me she referred to as 'file only' and was essentially producing and filing my Tax Return based on the information I provided. Apparently increased regulation makes that less usual now.

I live and work overseas and my salary is not taxable, but I have a UK public sector pension (which has tax deducted at source) and income from a let property (although I sold a second let property in April so need help with that and a potential Capital Gains liability).

So, to my question. I am looking for an accountant that would be prepared to deal with my Return based on property income. To stress, the numbers are modest and I am looking to pay someone, not get it free.

It is a long way from a desirable gig for a big name crowd, so I assume I'm looking for a reasonably small-scale one-man band that deals with personal clients and is prepared to take on a fairly low-level task. Any ideas on how I might find someone please, or anyone here or that you know that might be willing to help?

It’s unclear if you are living and working overseas why a uk tax return applies to you but thinking slightly out of the box someone who specialises in doing returns for uk national merchant seafarers may be useful.

It seems your circumstances may be similar.

If not much has changed or changes year by year, just use your last return as a crib sheet and put in the new figures and diy?

I use TaxCalc and just do my own, it’s not difficult.
If it’s a bit more complex some years I use someone who is familiar with overseas workers. PM me if you want details of the guy I use.

Just be aware that you've been in default with respect to any CGT due on your property sale since May.

That's what I'm afraid of, but I don't know if I have a liability.

My rental income is UK-sourced. I used to have a much larger portfolio, but it's just one flat now and the hassle almost isn't worth it.
