I want to get an RS3 as it ticks all the right boxes for me. It has been 12 months since I've had a fast car and I'm getting the itch again. However, I'm too cheap to get 35k out for a facelift RS3 8V. I'm an outright purchase type of guy so I wouldn't finance a car. I've lost over 10k in depreciation on each of the M3's that I've had in the past. This has made me even more "cheap"

I'm looking at this RS3 8P - https://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/202...

If I bought this car, kept it for 2 years and did 20,000 miles, how much would you expect this car to depreciate? Also, how much hassle would it be moving it on when it's 11/12 years old with 110k miles on the clock?

For me when a car goes past 100000 miles I start to get a bit worried, it’s a mental thing I know but I think a lot of others have the same attitude.
I can’t see it depreciating much to be honest, hard to say how much but it looks a good price at the moment.
They certainly hold their value well.
We all lose thousands over the years, it’s the downside of our hobby.

I don’t know what the market for the 8P is like, but I know the PFL 8V has done really well over the last couple of years. A top spec model that was going for £35k 2 years ago would still cost you in the low £30ks to buy from a dealer.

I sold mine recently privately, and overall it cost me about £200 a month in depreciation. If it weren’t for COVID I reckon it would easily have sold for more.

This is what is putting me off getting the 8V. I feel like I've missed the boat which I did with my last M3. I bought in at 34k when they had been holding up at those prices for while. I ended up getting out at 22k two years later. I feel like if I put 35k into a nice RS3 now history will repeat itself, especially with Covid-19.

I might just hold out until the 8V hits low 20's. I'm guessing at some point the economy is gonna take a nosedive because of COVID-19. The virus isn't going anywhere soon and the Government can't keep on paying people 80% of their wage to sit at home. I remember when the credit crunch hit back in 07/08 and E46 M3's dropped down to 6k. You could pick up a Ferrari 360 for 30k back then too. Will be interesting to see what happens to used car prices over the next 12 months.

It’s hard to say what’s going to happen, I can’t see the prices dropping too much personally but you never know.
Epic sounding cars though but very expensive.
