Having seen a thread a while back with the unused areas of the rear tyre reffered to as 'chicken stripes', how wide or narrow are yours ? and how long did it take you to loose them ?

Best I've seen was an old neighbour who used to removed the flappy bit where the side wall starts.

Me, well I'm a bit of a newby, and Mrs vitesse tells me off every time she sees they've got narrower.
I just keep my helmet on now so I can't hear her !!!!

The 3mm of brown on the left is the unused rubber. That's after an 'energetic' ride back from Poole one evening. I went out with Mon Ami Mate recently and the middle of the tyre was all bobbled and the chicken strips were pretty non-existent. Sadly I needed a new tyre shortly afterwards.

About 1cm each side as I'm scrubbing it in at the moment. The old tyre had none at all.

Yeah mines approx 1cm each side, perhaps a bit less and I don't consider myself an aggressive cornering fiend at all

Just from road riding I have none on the back of the Aprilia. I can't get rid of the ones on the front, though. Why would this be? I'm on BT010s BTW. Tyre profile?

My Suzuki's grew on the back tyre after my trip to Le Mans - after all of the motorway mileage. Must be the heat.

I've still got them on both sides and both are about 1cm and (slowly) reducing as the miles go by and my confidence returns having not really used it much for a couple of years (excuses, excuses ).

Cheers,

No he hasn't! He's got about 10mm left each side. It's called pushing the front into corners!!

Nords - serious question: I presume your back tyre in the photo is after a road ride? If it's not, where were you riding, and what sort of suspension are you running? Your tyres are very clean!!!

They're not clear in the photo.

What, the roughed up areas of the tyre? He's still used that are of the tyre regardless how he did it hasn't he? Or am I missing something?

Chicken Stripes? Can't really tell with my Diablos but the Hero Blob at the end of my LEFT peg has been ground half off! Is that leant far enough over for ya!
