Hi. I am a Porsche virgin. Not technical in the slightest. Looking at a late 2004 911 997 tiptronic C2. 91K miles. Engine rebuild 12K ago. Car is in good shape - I think. Just want to know the upside and downside of purchasing a car with a rebuild... which cost, with receipt, over £9k.

To me, it's an upside as it's like a new engine with just 12K miles. And in essence, comes with peace of mind. But does it affect value and resale? Coming in at £20,995 from a specialist garage. Would appreciate any views on this. Just looking for that added reassurance from people in the know!

Early 997s suffer from intermediate shaft (IMS) bearing failure which can basically destroy the engine with very little warning. Assuming that the rebuild included uprating the IMS bearings, I'd say it's an enormously desirable thing to have.

Hi, Can I ask who did the rebuild and when as some engine rebuilds come with a 2 year warranty. I ask who did the rebuild as it can obviously have a bearing on how good the rebuild is. Also, you mention it's a Specialist selling the car, are they a Porsche specialist ?
Cheers.

One thing you can rely on with a 2004 997 engine...

Was done in 2015 and have checked receipt. Did come then with a 2 year warranty. And yes, looks like it was IMS related. So, I think it's looking good. Thanks for all advice. Great forum. Good weekend.

Not sure if you want to say or not, but who did the rebuild; if you say who did it, some on here might have some experience/knowledge of them and can maybe comment on their quality; as stated a week or two back, somebody bought a 997 which had a rebuild, but it was turning out to be a nightmare due to the questionable quality of the rebuild. Also, is the seller a Porsche specialist ?
Good luck.

Yes. Seller is a Porsche specialist. Rebuild was a German specialist. Won’t say name but spoke and seemed professional. Thanks for the advice and interest. If I get it will let you all know...
