Perez tests positive for Covid
Discussion
"Following today’s announcement that Sergio Perez of the BWT Racing Point Formula 1 Team produced an inconclusive test result for COVID-19 at the Silverstone Circuit ahead of the 2020 FIA Formula 1 British Grand Prix, the FIA and Formula 1 can now confirm that the result of his re-test is positive," the team said. "Perez has entered self-quarantine in accordance with the instructions of the relevant public health authorities, and will continue to follow the procedure mandated by those authorities.
"With assistance of the local organizer of the British Grand Prix, local health authorities and the FIA COVID-19 delegate, a full track and trace initiative has been undertaken and all close contacts have been quarantined.
"The procedures set out by the FIA and Formula 1 have provided for swift containment of an incident that will have no wider impact on this weekend’s event."

That's surely all of Tracing Point out for next week? Maybe this week? The risk is very high even with safeguarding.
If the 'bubbles within bubbles' has worked then the rest / majority of the team should be fine (I'm also assuming we would have heard by now as the rest of team will already be in-place, therefore all tested too.Although, yes - that probably means Perez will be out for next week too as he'll have to do 14 days isolation.
Racing Point don't actually have a reserve driver, instead using Mercedes' reserves.
This would mean Stoffel Vandoorne or Esteban Gutierrez.
Vandoorne is unavailable this weekend, which would leave Gutierrez.
However, looks like Hulkenburg is also an option. Would be good to see him in the car for a couple of races. I don't rate him for a top line seat, but he is a good reserve.

Gutierrez hasn’t done enough mileage to reactivate his license or some such apparently. So it’s hulk, but I only just read that on Reddit so might not be true. This would mean Stoffel Vandoorne or Esteban Gutierrez.

Several teams sharing a reserve driver that can't actually drive due to license restrictions seems a bit crazy, no? More so in a season with a compressed schedule and a global pandemic going on. I wonder if the FIA would/could exceptionally relax the rules given mileage will have been difficult to come by this year.

Perez has confirmed he returned to Mexico to visit his sick mother...

They also appear to have confirmed that he will indeed miss race 2, as expected.

I think the FIA are going to have to start enforcing their bubbles within bubbles rules. There were drivers flying back to Monaco between the Austrian races to attend parties and Ricciardo taking a private jet home with Verstappen without masks on or any social distancing. If there is an outbreak in the paddock I could see the whole championship being cancelled.

I suspect the teams will quickly clamp down to drivers not sticking to social distancing properly without good reason. They, and the sport as a whole, have a lot to lose if things do go wrong. Gazzab said:
How will teams clamp down on drivers? Ultimately the bubble bubble stuff has a rather limited effectiveness. Hopefully F1 won’t see a major outbreak and have to stop the season in its tracks. But it could easily happen.
Stop drivers going to parties or out of control CV hot spot countries ? Just an idea.Exige77 said:

Not just drivers, any of the trackside team. Given they've been given an exemption from all sorts of laws in all sorts of different countries in order to allow the sport to happen at all, they should be doing everything in their power to show they deserve it.

Couldn't have put this better myself. I bet the majority of the team have little choice but to be wherever the team tells them to be (scheduled flights etc) and will be spending months away from family. Must be frustrating when the the one guy you are working to help put in the car is off breaking the rules. If staff members continue to travel all over the place and pick up the virus the sport is quickly see their exemptions revoked, and quite rightly so IMO.
