I’m interested in the following car. It’s academic interest only at this stage unless it genuinely turns out to be a very early UK S2000:

Most customer cars were registered on a “V” in or after September 1999, but this is on a “T”. A few press cars/early demos were registered on a “T” (hence my largely academic interest).

A bit of research using a free online tool (carsgt), the govt MOT and vehicle check websites reveals inconsistent and contradictory information. I’m surprised even the govt information sources differ. Anyway, here goes:

Carsgt: first reg 1 January 2000; VED £270
Gov vehicle enquiry service (tax/MOT checker): first reg July 2003
Gov MOT history check: first reg 1st October 1999

Now the car has forged 6 spoke alloys, only available as an option on JDM cars, so in all likelihood it’s an import and the dates are messed up. But (although I can’t check the govt website because I don’t have the V5C) the VED is the UK age-related PLG rate, not the lower rate for an import. Although this might be a guess by carsgt based on the alleged date of first registration I suppose.

Can anyone do anything more sophisticated to shed any light?

It's not registered as an import with the DVLA, so insurers wouldn't consider it one either (if that's your concern).

Previous reg was S200PJS which is reason for differing first registration dates.
