You would be amazed at how much wieght you save in fitting a triple plate clutch......Over 15Kgs..... There made from Ally, and the flywheel is alot smaller to. They take over 600lbs so that would cure it.....

See Super Clutch..... Or give me a ring....

I'd not go to superclutch as they couldn't help me when I was buying/designing mine.... go to Gardner douglas as they already have kits for the chevy to porsche arrangment, and won't be any difference in price for exactly the same clutch (although you have ford right?)

On my canam I had a std porsche item that in the end slipped but only if you booted it and fed the clutch, with my normal dump the clutch and floor it approach it was fine.

I replaced it just before I sold it with another std item as its not like I gave the first one light use.

Incidentally the old one was really heavily worn and I was surprised it still held in 99% of the time.

As Andy said, it's fine 90% of the time, it's just on track days when you're giving it the "bigstick" the bloody thing turns it'self into an Evo. (Sorry in advance to any Evo owners!)

You're absolutely right Clive but i'm concerned about the balance issue, as the engine was externally balanced using the clutch cover!

Ah that would not be good then... Would have to be a rebalance then....

Kennedy Engineering in the US does a aluminium version of the Porsche pressure plate that has Stiffer spring fingers, and therefore has a larger torque rating, But also has a slightly heavier clutch pedal. It's what we fitted to Simon's car, I dove it with no problem for over a 1000 miles.......

I have always used a 7.25 inch Tilton clutch with triple plates, till i got fed up with the two start options of two black lines or a stalled engine. Went for the two plate option and all is perfect. Got all my parts and advice from Silverstone shop. NEVER get slip or overheating.

Thanks for that Paul, i've already procurred a suitable flywheel for a 7.25 clutch, what thrust bearing are you using?

That would be an internal SAAB one I think.

after much investigation I gave up looking for an aftermarket internal bearing and bought GD's kit... comes with a plate to replace gearbox shaft sleeve on the G50 along with the relevant SAAB bearing.

I've found part if not all the problem, I took out the gearbox and disassembled the clutch, while i had the components on the bench I noticed a blueing on the outer edge of the flywheel, armed with a straight edge and feeler gauges, showed an 8 thou difference from the outer to the inner face.
It would appear I only have 30% contact on the flywheel face!

Its from a saab 900. There is only one I think. Cost around £100, you get the cly and the bearing as one from your friendly saab dealer! Note there is not a lot of room, and I took a bit off the rear face of the saab unit to ensure lots of spare travel as the clutch wears. If not, the bearing could be too close to the clutch and be "riding" the clutch.... if you know what I mean! Works well. let me know if you need any more info.

Any part numbers that you might have for both Tilton and Saab would be very useful. Thanks.
