Tryed verious readers, the laptop has a SD card slot but non of the micro SD cards seem to work.

They used to.

My really pld PC running Win 98 will read them. Any ideas anyone?

How are the SD cards formatted?

Fat or NTFS? This might be the reason.

not thought of that, just formatted in the camera.

Seems the wrong way round - 10 should read FAT and NTFS, Windows 98 won't read NTFS.

OP, are they SD, SDHC or SDXC cards, and what is the camera?

Happens quite a lot.

Not trying to be funny, but googling "sd card reader not working windows 10" comes back with a whole bunch of suggestions.

Could it be the adaptors or the card slots rather than the micro? Never had a problem with them despite having quite a few distributed among phones, dashcams etc which download to W10 occasionally.

Perhaps i'm just fortunate.

I'm going to check something, which I'm hoping the OP will tell me is just me being stupid...but I've stopped underestimating the ingenuity of some users (I act as unofficial first line tech support for a team of 50 professionals at a large multi-national - and I had one last week trying to plug a USB-C cable into a Kensington lock slot).

Are you trying to put a microSD card in a standard SD card slot...without an microSD to SD adapter!

If that's not the case, then I find some SD and microSD cards overheat and die (especially in GoPros).
