So I was going to buy a small SUV (Epace / XC40 / Q3) for moving bikes and the like but my heart really isn't in it - then lockdown happened, when it eased I sold my JCW MINI - and started looking for its replacement. I had a 987 until 2015 so a Cayman was always going to be a good idea. I looked at a few, I was originally going to get a 981 but they are holding their money remarkably well - there wasn't too much of a step to get a much newer 718. I know the engine is controversial - but this is a daily and so 99% of the time you barely notice the difference.

Spec is

718 - Manual GT Silver
20" Carrera S wheels in Satin Platinum
PASM
Nav / CarPlay etc (this is standard)
BOSE
Full natural leather interior in espresso (stitching in exterior colour - I believe this makes it faster, it's also got the steering column in leather - this adds even more)
LED headlights with PDSL+
few other bits and pieces.

Car has a few months warranty left so I can decide if I want to carry on with that. Rear wheels need a refurb - apart from that is good to go.

Lovely - good luck! Is the warranty eye-watering to extend?

Thanks

The 718 is a fantastic looking thing, building on what the 981 delivered but kicking it up a notch. Looks lovely!
Seems a good spec list too with that interior.

981's really are holding value pretty crazily, great for owners but from a buyers perspective they look less & less GVFM when the 718's are dropping into the same sort of price range and are much newer. The key differentiating feature is clearly the engine.

That's quite odd that the rear wheels need a refurb for a car just under 3 years old. Unless they've been curbed by the previous owner?

Gorgeous colour interior.

its about £250 for the check for the warranty - and about £1200 for two years warranty - plus anything they find that's not covered (n rated tyres etc) - it's been pretty well looked after so I'm not expecting too much.

Rears need a refurb just from a little bit or kerb damage - nothing serious.

I too had a 987s a few years ago and then switched to an M135i. That’s coming up to 5 years old now. I keep thinking of switching and one of these really does make great sense.

I test drove a 997 and whilst a brilliant car, I feel less practical as a daily than a cayman. 981 are just too steep for me when looking at the age, miles etc.

More and more the 718 is looking a great daily prospect. Looking forward to hearing how your getting on with it in a few months.

Either way cracking car hope you enjoy it.

Really nice car. I nearly bought one of these about a year ago.

I had a a 235 for 18 months (20k) immediately after my last Cayman - I always thought it was basically the opposite for a "performance" car. Cayman is so balanced - but lacked all out straight line. The 235 was really fast if you floored it (mine was an auto so had launch etc) - but lacked composure in the twisty bits - especially the slightly bouncy / floaty rear.

Go drive a 718 - You'll end up spending money.

Nice, enjoy.

Who needs practicality anyway rotate

Pretty sure you can get those 'sucky' bike rack thingys for the back of these?

You can indeed, had the 718 GTS in December and just purchased the tree frog rack. Both work well!

That’s a good looking car Op, enjoy.

I think you’re right in the way it builds upon the previous generations from a design point of view.
