Surprised nobody has posted this yet. Nobel prize for peace winner amongst many other awards. Played a large part in the Irish peace process.

A good man who played a big part in bringing an end to the madness in N.Ireland.

I appreciate things are not perfect before anyone chips in, but they are a damn sight better than they were and this man played a huge part in that.

They’re all too busy fighting over Boris, COVID and the EU to notice! I think Hume’s legacy is that Ireland has enjoyed some semblance of peace because of his single minded commitment to banging heads together on both sides of the divide. An extraordinary man and one who restores your faith. RIP

'I don't give two balls of roasted snow what anyone advises me. I will continue'

Great quote. Must remember to use that one at work!

Extraordinary seems a word many are using.

Northern Ireland politics is so childish I couldn't blame anyone outside not having any care for it.
Hume seemed to have a honest heart-felt desire to improve life for all here, and did so with such down-to-earth humanity that stands far above the behaviour of those who claim to represent us now.
Irish history will remember him well.

Yes, a decent man. I’d have voted for him if I was over there.
