stepper motor problem?

Just been reading about stepper motors, as all newbies are advised to clean them.

My motor runs OK, but when I switch it off, nothing happens for 1/2 a second, then there is a small blip of throttle and it stops. I thought that, although unusual, this sounded cool ;) and was probably standard!

I was listening to some sound clips regarding modded exhausts, and those all switch off without the blip. Does this mean my SM needs a clean?

Any thoughts appreciated.
