Hi All,
My E90 330i's CCC unit has stopped working and needs to be repaired.

Can anyone recommend a good company that will refurbish it?
I have heard good things of Hi-tech in Hungary, and my local garage use BBAreman (although their trustpilot reviews are quite poor).

Also, do i just send the CCC unit or does the fan and discs need to be sent too?

PS: I am based in UK.

If you’re anywhere near the M62, these guys are good, used them a couple of times (no affiliation), what you’re asking about is their daily bread & butter, so to speak.

Watching with interest. Mines packed up too, on a 55 plate so not sure if it’s the same. Local specialist basically said it wasn’t worth repairing, as it would cost £2k.

Mines an 05, so a very early one and likely to be the same as yours.

I will keep this thread updated. So far I have emailed Hi-tech services for information (they cost £429 to repair your unit) https://hitechserv.com/electronics-repair/oem-navi...

I will call revtronics tomorrow for prices and information (Their Google reviews seem very good!).

Just called revtronic. Guy was very helpful.

He suggested two things might be wrong:
1) Telephone module might have failed which over time damaged the CCC (£195 to repair)
2) CCC unit has failed (£375 to repair).

He suggested I send the units to him so he can test them first. It could be one of the two problems above or both. If both, the cost will be £570.

Has anyone else carried out the above work or have suggestions?

personally if your keeping the car for a while i would look into the cost of retrofitting a newer unit as depending on the age of the car and equipment might not be a big of a job as you think

My brother e91 2005 idrive wasn't working when he bought his car.
Diagnostic by a local indy said appears to have crashed whilst a previous owner was attempting a software update? Anyways it was on a constant reboot and thus draining the battery.
Long story short he just replaced his unit with a newer/updated unit as above which he bought 2nd hand off ebay. Was about £350 ish.

Wasn't too bad to fit, couple hours at most and all in working order with the benefit the newer software.
He hopes to flog his screen / old unit as not working spares & repairs.

Thanks for the further responses.

The reason I don't want CIC is that I am very happy with the CCC unit as it does everything I need and I am not fussed about updated software/functionality. (the iDrive is really only used for it's parking sensors and the radio).

There is another Romanian company https://mca.electricmura.ro/en/ who have excellent reviews and have been helpful via email. The repair would be 200 euros plus return postage. I am contemplating sending the unit to them if I don't find a decent (and appropriately priced) UK company.

Did you go with MCA in the end? I'm possibly about to do the same and just wondered how you got on with them.

Yes, I sent it to MCA and it arrived in Romania ~ 10 days ago. They acknowledged receipt of it but said there is a delay in repairing it as they were busy after their summer break.

The guy said it should be ready by tomorrow. As soon as i receive it back and it is working, i will post on here to let you know costs/times and my overall experience with them.

Sent mine to the guys in Romania, great service but although unit came back working, 2 days later it started rebooting again & now doesn't work at all so they've asked me to do a test using a the fibre optic loop back tester on the amp & bluetooth module in the boot incase its these causing it to fail before sending the CCC unit back to them for a repair under warranty.

Thread update...

I received the CCC drive and MULF unit back on Monday, and it is working perfectly. Very fast startup and no lag when going through the different options. The software has also been updated.

Costs were:
£26.94 to send both units to Romania via Parcelforce
200 euros for the CCC repair
60 euros for the MULF repair
25 euros for shipping (they used DPD who were quite slow)
Total cost: £289.94 (with 1 year warranty on both units).

I would give Mura a 4 star rating. The reason is that while the repair was fine and it is a genuine company that replies to emails quickly, they took almost 14 days to work on the unit even though their website says 3-5 day turnaround time. After about 10 days I did send an email and was told it was being worked on and would be ready in a few days, but wasn't. I then called Romania and the guy was apologetic and units were finished and ready to dispatch by end of the that very day! DPD then took an age to deliver it (about 10 days).

I would definitely use them again as I think they are a decent company and much cheaper than Revtronics who quoted £375 to repair CCC and £195 to repair Mulf.

I hope the above info is useful to anyone who stumbles across this thread in the future.

Thanks for the update.

Silly question, is it sill possible to drive the car with the iDrive removed or does the car have some kind of electrical grumble over it all?

Hi Georgy,

Everything still works fine without Idrive. There are no electrical issues at all and no fault codes. In fact, my garage was still able to update the date of brake fluid change using the stalk by the steering. The data must get stored elsewhere which the Ccc accesses to display it.

Another thing, it is very easy to remove ccc drive yourself which saves you an hour of labour cost from garage. Lots of tutorials on Youtube. Mulf is in boot and is also easy to remove.

Just to add to this, my impatience got the better of me and I sent my CCC unit and MULF unit off to them 3 weeks ago. They were delivered back to me today having only left Romania yesterday. All fitted and everything working perfectly, including the bluetooth and sat nav that were also not working previously. I would highly recommend MCA. They kept me informed of progress throughout and were far cheaper than people in the UK offering the same service.
