Obscure I know, but someone might have an idea.

Started doing a bit of walking during the lockdown so now things are opening up I decided to buy some proper walking shoes from Mountain Warehouse. They're great, big improvement, but the righthand one rubs the outside edge of my right heel until it becomes sore which is very frustrating.

Tried thicker socks, tried a plaster over the area but no joy.

Other than 'don't wear them' and 'don't walk in them', any useful tips?

Two pairs of socks, one thin, one thick might help. Medical alcohol on the sore patch to harden it up might help. Taking them back to the shop to see if another identical pair might help.

2 pairs of socks, they rub against each other rather than you.

I don't know what they are made of but some materials can be stretched, your can buy shoe stretchers quite cheaply from ebay or shoe repairers will offer this service.

Another option is put a little foam on the area in the shoe, Boots sell a foam product for the toes, it is tubular, try sticking a little of this in the area.

If they are leather, get them soaking wet, put them on and walk until they dry out.

Engo blister patches from amazon. They stick inside your shoe and form a slippery surface for your foot to slide against. No friction = no blister. They just work.

Compeed patches for a blister, compeed stick to prevent them.

This is from Boots, costs £5 and is gel and foam, you cut it to size. It could either go down a sock or stuck to the shoe.

If you are doing very long walks then it might even be a good idea around your little toes

A dollop of Vaseline on the skin where the rubbing occurs works wonders.

Got to admit to finding Duck tape works a treat, slippery and durable, stick it over a small piece of plaster

Ride it out. Treat the sore but if they're good, they'll wear in nicely.

Wasn’t the old WW1 trick to pee in them?

Average I'd say. They fit me fine everywhere except the annoying rubbing but my feet are not especially wide I don't think.

What's odd is that both shoes feel like they move around a little at the back, but only one makes my heel sore.

1/2 insole (heel only) May raise your heel enough to stop it rubbing.

My feet suffered when I first started walking. It gets better. I wear 2 pairs of thin walking socks. Always carry compeed to use if I get a hot spot. Have a look how tie the boots to lock your heel in better.
