When engineering becomes art....
Discussion
Dear All,
It's 50 years ago since I bought my first "Car Craft" magazine (the alternative to "Hot Rod").
I was mesmorised by the effort and skill our colonial cousins displayed when improving their vehicles.
I was particularly impressed when I saw a cousin who had replaced his conrods with those offerred by Carrillo.
They were H-beams, which I'd never seen before, and were stunning.
To relieve my insanity rising from my 100K service, I contacted CPCarrillo and asked what they did for Cerbs.
Cerbs, of course, are not on their list of vehicles
BUT
they can custom make some for $400 a pop.
Anyone interested in a group buy ???
(Jut call me crazeeee !
)

I believe they already make them.. Even if they don't have the link. It's 50 years ago since I bought my first "Car Craft" magazine (the alternative to "Hot Rod").

Thanks very much lads. You have saved me a fortune
I stand corrected and will presume the following to be misinformed B.S.
"Hi Paul,
Thank you for your email and for your support of our products.
Very excited to read about your project – that is a beautiful car!!
I am glad you send us an email because product you are inquiring
about will have to be custom made and we don’t list that on our website.
I have copied our rod sales manager, Richard on this email and he can help provide pricing and lead times.
Thanks again and all the best on this project!"

You might not always agree with him but take a look at Mr Mellings Musings on FB, some really interesting stuff there. This one on the H beams above. All AJP and S6 owners should take a look.

This is the kind of stuff that upsets me, the bottom rod is a conrod designed by me and TVR item, the other rod is a item from a so called TVR dealer, just look at the state of that. It wrecked the pistons, course the rods are useless, and the crank is scrap. If you want to rebuild your engine then as they say only use genuine replacement parts and remember when they who ever offer you a warranty the cost to them is very little cos they get the labour money which is much more.

Jo Wain the connecting rod is guided through the crankshaft. There is a very small gap. This is not enough to let the leakage oil from the connecting rod bearing flow through

Jo Wain Simon Quinby No, a connecting rod bearing is normal without groove. It is supplied with oil through an oil hole. This oil must be able to escape from the bearing. This is called leakage oil. For this oil, the grooves are on the connecting rod.

Al MellingAuthor No the channel are there to increase the flow of the oil out of the bearing. And course the other rod doesnt have that so oil flow through the bearing is less. These are things that some how you guys should see when your engine builder is doing the rebuild. It is now apparent that they are not very well informed. See my post today re camshaft.

Al MellingAuthor Dom Trickett well yes they do but the real reason is the get the oil out of the big end quicker remember these are hydrodynamic bearings they survive by pumping oil through to take away the heat .its no use pumping it in if it cant get out. Lots of people think its to supply oil to the little end and cool the pistons but its primary job is get rid of the hot oil.
