So tried the BH evening track day today and failed the noise test miserably. The same configuration passed at oulton last year at 98. This time at 4500 we got 102.2 wtf?

So it's my 997.1 GT3, with sharkwerks rear box (yes I know), Uber9 tailpipe dongle and rubber bung to stop the exhaust valve from opening.

Bit confused really!
All ideas on what to do welcome (go to noisy trackdays #obvs)

Silenced exhaust tips with down turns.
3 bolt flange, takes mins to swap back and forth.

I found that holding the clutch in, and turning off the aircon made a (somewhat surprising) 2 Db difference to my score at Brands.

Interesting. Clutch was in, but air-conditioning on.

It looked pretty hard to get from 102 to 98. Just can quite get my head around the change from oulton. Unless the tester at oulton was letting things through that really didn't pass.

I'll be checking with my own meter today to see if it agrees!

I suspect that once the ITB's go on mine will never pass- we're treated somewhat unfairly as our cars are effectively tested for induction, ancillary and exhaust noise, whereas if the engine was at the other end we'd just have exhaust to contend with.

The noise testing person(s) are quite harsh every time I have been to Brands compared to other tracks where they seem to be a bit more 'flexible'. I have seen a few standard 997 GT3's fail the static and be turned away so expect with the Sharkwerks you had even less of a chance even though you had the Uber noise reducing tips. Once you are on the track it seems to be a bit more relaxed for noise however with few or no flags for noise.

I have managed to get my 991 GT3 with a Sharkwerks onto Brands a couple of times and past the static test and no problems on the track. I think because the 991 has has a soft limiter and won't rev past 4000 RPM it gets through just. I have got the Uber 9 tips as well but didn't need them last time I was there.

I would remove the Sharkwerks, reduce how much revs you give it when asked as much as possible and keep the tips on for Brands in a 997.

Oh, was this static or drive by ?
FYI, my 991.2 gt3 pdk with JCR super light Titanium Bypass without any silenced tips was 98.1DB on drive by at Donny earlier in the year ..the flagged me for being .1 over the limit.
We fitted the JCR silenced tips with downturns and were well below the drive by limit.

It was the static test. I rather suspect that the OUlton noise tester was very liberal rather than BH tester. I'll take a reading from my noise meter to see if it concurs. If so, I'l know that I need to de-sharwerks or only go to more liberal track days. Shame as I love the sharkwerks.

I was out and about today and thought something was wrong with the car. It just didn't howl under full chat. Then I remembered that I had the Uber9 silenced tips on, so they definitely work!

The BH guy was not going to be fooled by asking the revs. He actually looked at the tacho to see where the red lines was. So I will definitely adjust that with tape over it. But if it actually is at 102 at 4600, it isn't going to get down to 98 even at a few lower revs.

Hey ho.
