Long story short.

Bought cheap tdv8 with 2 dead turbos. Can buy recon turbos for 700 or a pair of cores for 200.

How hard are fitting them really? Looked a few guides and it looks stupidly simple, like 3 bolts but a difference of 500.

Ive heard of plenty people talking about buying cores and fitting themselves but Ive never known anyone whos done it and how long theyve lasted.
Ive been a mechanic for 45 years and I personally wouldnt bother, theres a fair bit of work involved in balancing and setting up turbos properly, these things rotate at over 100,000 rpm, they,ll soon self destruct if not done right.
I cant be certain but isnt the TDV8 same as the TDV6, to do the job properly involves removing the body, you dont want to be doing that more than once.

They are pre balanced and you *should* just have to swap over the housings the ads/videos have led me to believe.

This ad is just to show the items, these are some chinese specials.

The FFRR doesnt have a body off, thats only the sport and discovery, it doesnt have a chassis.

I have fitted a number of cheap CHRA to Peugeot and VW hatchbacks without problems.

As long as you are sure you have fixed the fault that ruined the original turbo then you should be ok.

Seized to the point of 'two become one' nuts and bolts will be the toughest thing you'll encounter.

I think its just one of those things which go on these. Not so much a issue just turbo design/use makes them fail.

Do you know how long the cheap CHRA lasted? Dont fancy doing the job again in a rush!
