Hi all,

A simple situation being made very complicated by the banking industry. Long story short; moved from Wales to Ireland in 2013 and now looking to come home. Our Irish house is under offer and have been trying to get a mortgage offer to ideally move from current house to new house avoiding moving kids twice from rented house school etc.

New house LTV around 45% and looking at roughly a £300k mortgage over next 20yrs to keep payments low with a view to overpaying with bonuses etc over next few years.

Salary and outgoings currently in my € account but have a contact offer from my current company to move to UK and be paid in GBP.

So far Natwest Premier have said they will accept a tenancy agreement and UK payslip to open an account (even though I would need an account to have a UK payslip...). I have a NI GBP bank account with Ulster Bank but apparently this is not valid as residency needs to be in mainland UK. Most high street advisors have no clue and just quote from the computer 👨‍💻

Any suggestions, clever PH financial advisors etc. I will move to a rented house if needed to rebuild my credit rating but would prefer not to burn £10k on rent.

Thanks, Mark

Bump on this one - just to say Sarnie sorted us out!

Found the only provider in the uk who would lend to an expat without being in-country, put up with my constant pestering with answers at all times of night holidays and weekends.

It was by far from the most straightforward set of circumstances and despite having to pay a higher rate for the privilege, to finally get the keys yesterday made it all worthwhile.

Thanks Sarnie - another recommendation from me.
