Looking for another car after selling my Audi , looking at mercs with the 350 cdi engine in. Budget £6-10k
I'm not fussy and will buy on miles, condition and history. But what's the general consensus on these
S class - would it be ruinous to run ? A lot of car for the money
E class coupe or estate not keen on the looks of the saloon.
CLS love the looks and always wanted one but interior seems old compared to the others?
R class, oddball but I quite like it.
Any opinions on them, anyone got any and want to share opinion's???

I have a E350 estate. Bought as a stopgap three years ago but I still have it. It is very comfortable, quiet and more than sufficiently fast for everyday driving.
If you are looking at the larger size cars then be aware that the early E class coupes are actually a C class underneath.

I don't currently own a 350 but a 500, I have supplied friends/clients with them & had an earlier iteration of that engine in my CLK & it's proving to be bulletproof no issues.
Make sure the gearbox fluid has been changed every 40k it's not an expensive job but makes a big difference to how it drives if it's over 70k I'd say get an oil change every 10k they appreciate it using non long life oil (Castrol Magnatec) means the oil cost for two changes is almost the same as if you a normal service using the long life oil.
There really isn't much to report.

S Classes are slightly more of a liability due to some of the extra kit but are nowhere near as bad as perhaps the depreciation percentages maybe suggest. Excellent value.
E Classes are a safer bet but are still very well put together. Personally I'm not a huge fan of the coupes as they still feel kinda large but lack the practically of a saloon/estate. Wouldn't mind a cab tho!
The CLS is probably the least "value". The pre face lift cars are nice, but do show their age a bit. The top end of your budget will get a face lift car with a much improved interior and refreshed exterior and is well worth considering as the update makes it feel like a far more modern car.

I have the V6 in a GLC350d and it does really seem to suit the car to be fair. It has a nice older school diesel feel to it, and I believe that the engine I have has been around since 2005. So it is an old engine, but it doesn't sound or perform too bad in fairness. I've had an S350L and I'm currently looking for a 350 estate, pr maybe another S

Plenty to choose from and I don't think you'd be disappointed with whichever model you decide to go for. As above buy on condition and proper maintenance history.
Given the state of our roads and how much traffic you encounter day to day my focus is on comfort and for that the S-class wins hands down. That's not to say the others are uncomfortable but the S operates on a different level.

Yup there's something about the way a Mercedes drive. It's pretty soothing and long distances just flows by.
I've a cls 350 and it's a great engine. Even on short journeys it's pretty economic.
The 7g gearbox suits it pretty well.
If you don't mind it being a 4 seater it's a nice place to be . The interior is pretty well screwed together and from top of the dash to the bottom it's all stitched leather. The vents and controls are all metal, only thing that lets it down are the plasticky rotary heating controls.
I've had mine just over 2 years now and it's been supremely reliable and my indy charges £150 for a service.
I've already changed the gearbox oil as it was sat for a couple of years before I got it so hopefully it will stand me in good stead.
You should get a w218 within your price range.
The second gen looks much better than the first gen in my eyes and if you get the AMG line model the led swivel headlights are tremendous.
