I am considering purchasing a 2000 e46 330i but it needs to be euro 4 / ULEZ compliant. The online TFL checker says its not but the seller tells me they are and a certificate of conformity can be obtained for £120 from BMW. However BMW have told me on the phone its not compliant. Has anyone been through this process and can clarify? Thanks.

So TFL and BMW are telling you it isn't compliant but the seller claims it is?

Hmmmmmm...

They can be if the met the requirements back in the day but it was not a requirement to declare the results. I got my vespa certified and it cost me £80 So it is possible.

As above it may be complaint and you can apply as I have done before. I am not sure with this vehicle though, it should be euro 4 so a CoC should be possible but I would like to hear it from someone who has done it.

So Euro 4 compliance is listed as:-

Euro 4 emission limits (petrol)
CO – 1.0 g/km
HC – 0.10 g/km
NOx – 0.08
PM – no limit

The (2000) 330i emissions are:-
CO 269 mg/km (0.269)
THC 48 mg/km (0.048)
NOx 9 mg/km (0.009)

So theoretically it should comply.

My E46 330Ci is Euro 4 compliant and confirmed as ULEZ compliant by TfL via the online check tool. As it's the same M54 engine as all other E46 330s I can't see why yours would be any different.

I didn't have to do anything to mark it as compliant, it was automatically registered as such.

Only cars 2005 and newer are automatically ULEZ/ Euro 4 compliant. Perhaps yours is a later car?

My 2004 330ci with the M54B30 is compliant per TfL

So is my old '99 V reg 328i when I punch in the reg on TfL's site. So it's not an age thing.

(edited because I rushed reading Bispal's preceding post and missed a key word. Sorry)

Out of curiosity, I just found an '00 330ci listing on ebay and put the reg form that into TfL. And it came back "no". That was an auto, I wonder if that tips it over and outside compliance?

I also wondered if maybe there was something different in the engine software for 2000. It seems the TfL are only concerned about the NOx within Euro 4, which I gather stipulates a maximum of 0.08g/km. NOx isn't on the V5C (or at least it's not on mine), so I quickly Googled to see what the M54B30 figures were for 2000 and, on the face of the single source I looked at, it seems compliant at just 0.009g/km.

http://www.emissionsfinder.com/bmw-3-series-e46-30...

But if BMW say it doesn't comply and won't write you a letter of conformity I guess that figure can't be correct.

Interesting, I just checked my 2000 E46 330Ci manual and it says £12.50 change for ULEZ. frown

Just put the reg no into the TFL website - if that says it is compliant then surely it is?

My 52 plate E46 325ti was compliant and that was in the same RFL Band as an E46 330i so I can't see it not being compliant, unless it's an auto with higher emissions.

On the 996 thread, some have got the certificates for ULEZ i think.

Just depends on the numbers.

If it helps, my 2001 E39 530i Touring auto is also ULEZ compliant, which was a welcome surprise as I assumed it wouldn't given the age.
