Growing longer hair
Discussion
I always used to have fairly short hair that was cut every 6-7 weeks, but now it hasn’t been cut in about six months and for quite a while it’s been growing on me (pun intended). Now I’m toying with keeping it long(ish) and was wondering what product people with longer hair use and how they go about styling it.
Yes, I have just read all that back and am still pressing submit!

Since you're feeling brave, why not show us a photo of you with your hair as it is now. If you're going for the Con Air Nicolas Cage look then I'd say turn back now. If you've got a good beard and the right physique to pull off a Jason Momoa, then I say go for it! Your wife probably won't be thrilled though! My daughter read that shampoo and conditioner damage your hair and you get a better barnet if you just run water through it. This does mean you have endure two or three weeks of greasy hair and scratchy head but soon enough the natural oils start to condition it. She gave it a go at the start of lockdown and I have to say, it works very well. From nothing other than a water wash, she has stunning looking hair!
I have longish hair. I just use whatever shower gel I happen to have, blob of moose and let it dry naturally.

Shampoo, conditioner, towel, brush
And under no circumstances, ever use a hair dryer. (although these days hair is increasingly something that happens to other people.)it really depends on what your hair is like.
shampoo and conditioner yes. never use the 2in1 stuff. depending on your hair it might be good to get a leave in conditioner or oils. as for a hair dryer, you can use one...again it depends on your hair type. just don't be blasting it on high with hot air.
Long hair most of my adult life. It's currently a bit longer than collarbone length. Once it's over a certain length, most products aren't going to make a lot of difference. Couple of things I have learnt over the years tho:
1. Always at least have stubble or preferably some form of beard. Failure to do this can result in looking like a cruise ship drag act on their night off.
2. You are allowed to tie it up higher if it's really hot. Just tell people to f
k off.
3. The amount of women who like blokes with long hair is quite reduced. Best I can work out it's like blokes who like women with short hair; it happens, but less often.
I've only ever been comfy with long hair and a beard, but if you're growing it out now be patient. And under no circumstance undercut the sides. Once you do that you're on countdown to chopping the lot off.
ETA I agree about not using a hairdryer. Also, conditioner isn't necessary if you have a good shampoo and don't use too much.

Had long hair for about 25 years. Previous to that used products on shorter hair, never used any since

^^^^This.
Had long hair for 30 years, and although I used to use a little shampoo, for the last 20+ years just run water through it, towel dry, then brush it and leave to fully dry naturally (don't go anywhere near a hairdryer).
I guess that saves quite a bit on shampoo etc over the years.
Also I've not been to the barber for 30 years - Mrs C&C just trims a couple of inches off the end every few months.
Lengthwise, it's just below shoulder length, and I'll usually have it in a ponytail - especially for work (IT Manager).
As has also been mentioned by several posters, I'd agree it looks better with a beard, which I've also had for 30 years. These days the hair's getting very grey, and the beard is nearly white, but I'm not planning on changing either anytime soon.

Not cut my hair for about 10 years, wanted to see how long it would get. Answer is just about to my shoulders. Actually I do cut it, just around my temples, that hair refuses to grow no more than a couple of inches so I trim when I'm doing my beard, which is short, long stubble really.
I need to tie my hair back out of the way, I do it two ways with a third occasionally for a change, that way is a bit girly apparently. And an alice band sometimes.
