Anyone suffering from epilepsy will know the horrendous side effects anti-epileptic medication has on them, it's hell!.
I'm currently on keppra and lamotrigine, after having had brain surgery I've now been seizure free for 3 years.
The conversation has come up with my neurologist about weaning me off keppra. I'm quite hesitate, why rock the boat!?, but the idea of not being on keppra is massively tempting.
A BIG worry is how bad the withdrawal symptoms would be whilst being weaned off... If they're anything like when I was put on it, I'd think twice.
My mind is all over the place on this decision and I really can't make up my mind.
My neurologist did say the process of being taken off keppra would be extremely slow, but there is a slight chance of a relapse and suffering from a seizure.
Probably unlikely but has anyone any experience on the matter?

Not keppra but I just changed from carbamazapine to epilum for my epilepsy. There was a few weeks weaning off and building the doseage of the 2 drugs. The first week I was off carbamazipine I felt tingling nerve endings radomly all over my body at random times. It stopped after a week or so and I feel fine again.
Just remember if you change your meds you will havd to stop driving for 12 months. I had a fit (first in several years)so I had to stop driving anyway so it was a good time to try the diffrent meds

I was diagnosed epileptic about 14 years ago. I was using Tegratol Retard. Coming off the drugs was the best thing I did, as they were causing amnesia and fatigue. My head felt clearer and I started recalling stuff again at work.
I have had no further fits.
Word of warning - I think my epilepsy was misdiagnosed, so I had no further fits.
If you can I would, I felt so much better, but closely follow what your doctor advises.
