Parking fine notice question

A friend of mine (no, really, it wasn't me!) parked at their local gym and, claimed there are no signs up, although I personally suspect there probably are signs there, and has just received a £200 parking fine through the post.
So..... If ignored, what can happen? I believe it's a private firm, considering it was in a gym car park and not on the road.
If it will help I can try to get a photo of the fine/notice.

Look at the postcode on the ticket, then look at the postcode on Google street view.
There are loads and loads of Parking Signs everywhere!!
I wasn't going to be long or, I thought I'd risk it, might (only might!) be a reasonable excuse (although obviously not in the eyes of the parking company) but "I didn't see the signs" is just moronic!

I know that Puregym and I'm a member of the branch at Portsmouth North Harbour, 5 miles down the road. There are signs everywhere outside it, and like the Puregym I go to, there will be signs inside the gym as you walk in telling you to register your car with the gym to avoid a parking charge notice.

I'd see if you can get it cancelled by the landowner but if not, there's ways of fighting it but it's lengthy and rather painful. Clearly states that you can pay £60 and be done with it so if your mate isn't one for fighting it through the courts, it may be best to just pay up.

On what grounds could he fight it? And why shouldn't the parking company charge him?
Just pay it, not because it encourages them or to avoid a battle, but because it's the right thing to do.

In my experience the VAST majority of people who get caught by private parking companies knew full well they should have paid but were hoping that either they wouldn't get caught or they wouldn't get chased in Court for payment. They've always known what the "right thing to do" was, they're just hoping there's a watertight way of getting OUT of doing it.Countdown said:
