My son and I love goats cheese - especially the long squidgy logs. We've recently bought some from 2 local artisan shops near where we holiday in France and unlike the supermarket logs, it's really bland (but more expensive).

Any ideas what to do with this stuff? Leaving it for a week and adding salt has helped - but what's the point of bland cheese. Any ideas?

Might not be easy on hols but most goat or sheeps cheese works really well caramelised with a blowtorch. I normally chunk it up onto a baking sheet, freeze for an hour then torch it and leave to defrost before using, or chuck it straight back in the freezer for another time.

Cook in a sheet of filo pastry for 15mins

Serve with Rocket and Olive oil and Balsamic vinegar reduction and top with some runny honey.

This won't be helpful, but strong goat's cheese is the work of the devil in my view. The mild stuff at least doesn't taste of goat.

Flavour it up a bit.

I like it on toasts with pre dinner drinks:
Cut out circles of sliced bread with a cutter or a small glass.
Spray with oil, season and bake for 5 mins
Top with the goat's cheese and a sprinkle of mixed herbs and bake until cheese is cooked - preferably almost souffle like.

The Mrs likes hers drizzled in honey or with a slice of strawberry between toast and the cheese.

Add it to a salad of different types of tomatoes (need to be really ripe) and toasted croutons. Make a herby dressing and be generous with it.

Best thing to do with goat's cheese is to put it in the bin. One of the very few foods that I cannot eat.

Thanks everyone - a few generic 'goats cheese' posts, but I think I'll try caramalising.

When we're in France, it's our own cottage - so blow torch is possible wink

Honey is always the answer. Even better with walnuts/figs.
Though depending on how much cooking you want to do you could try a goats cheese cheesecake - savoury or sweet. Lush either way!

We buy our goat cheese from Grand Frais in logs .
Pop in freezer for a couple of hours , making it firmer to cut.
Slice into fairly thick rounds.
Sprinkle with HDP.

My absolute favourite is Banon which comes beautifully wrapped in chestnut leaves.
Generous slice with a couple of figs and walnuts from the garden.
A drizzle of neighbour's honey
A glass of neighbour's CDR
Absolute heaven !

Try rolling in flour —> egg —> panko breadcrumbs and deep fry, or oven bake if you prefer. Serve on top of a rocket salad with walnuts and pickled beetroot smile
