Has anyone used the TPLink Deco Wifi mesh system? I have Virgin Media internet which runs at 100mbps or so when near the router, but obviously as you get further away the speed drops. The speed is even worse in my home "office" where I have been working from since March and will be indefinitely. I did a search on Mesh systems and for £90 the TPLink Deco system seems decent value?

Although looking at the specs, it only seems to have 100mbps LAN. Do any of the units need to connect to the LAN ports on the router?

A bit late for the OP, but PC Pro had a good roundup on Mesh Wifi options a few months ago.
They rated Netgear Orbi's as the best all round (incl value for money), with the Asus ZenWifi as the overall fastest. There was a Wifi 6 model of Orbi too which beat everything else but was horrendously expensive.
If you already have a BT HomeHub then their Whole Home system was well rated, and they have just launched a mini version which is really cheap (but not as quick).

Late to the thread, but I have a Deco P9 system and it's brilliant, 120mbps everywhere, and acts as a wifi bridge so my playstation and Pi are on wired connection to one of the units.
I used to be on Virgin and the setting sin the hub can be a bit temperamental, mine used to occasionally take itself out of modem mode and back to the normal mode.

How much benefit are these mesh systems in the average small 3-bed house?
I have a £30 TP-Link right now and it's more than adequate but I'm about to get 150mbps broadband so I need a new router and it's either something like an Archer AX10 or some sort of mesh unit as the router by the phone socket with an additional cube on the other floor.

They are only of any use if you struggle to get a signal in all the rooms. For performance you won't beat talking direct to the router.
I bought a Billion Router for about £300 and it was no better for performance or range than the bog standard provider one I was originally using. To extend the range I installed a Linksys Mesh system and it works ok.

I had poor signal in a few places where there were a couple of solid walls between there and the router, plus I wanted to put in a powerline or wifi bridge to connect a couple of things that don't have wifi, a mesh system did the job nicely. In my previous 3 bed house the bog standard Virgin Superhub's wifi worked perfectly well. A decent router/Accesspoint should work better than something provided by the ISP.
That is why I went for the Deco units, where I work from at home didn't get very good signal from the (not so) superhub 3. I now are one next to me, one next to the hub and one in the lounge. I get seamless 110mbps everywhere. I have bridged to my laptop from the Deco next to me as well. My wifi kept dropping out the other night while I was talking an Oracle Cloud exam which is why I have bought these.

My house is modern, small, thin walls - could get clear signal to router from most of it but much stronger and more reliable with the Decos set up with my VM router. Still worth the improvement IMO.TallMark said:

Got one of these. It's not very good. It was only bought to fill a black spot that nothing else could reach. It JUST about manages it with hours of nudging the disks back and forth but still fails 20% of the time and the signal everywhere else is weaker than previous lash ups with plug thingies. b

Which model do people have please?
Literally as simple as connect one to the DSL/cable modem/router and plug the others into the mains?
The S4 and M4 look identical if I compare on the TP-Link website
I have the M4. You need to put your router in modem mode then hook one up via Lan cable to it. Which model do people have please?

I did click and collect for 3 from Curry's, cost me £99.99. You can get a pack of 2 from Argos for £69.00 I think.
I have the P9, which uses powerline as well as wifi to talk to each other.
Bear in mind they are a relatively budget option compared to some and do have some limitations in the setup software, eg they automatically select the channel. They are however very easy to set up via a phone app and seem to work really well.
