Hey guys

Just taking in a week away in the middle of the North York moors. Driving back from dinner this evening and restricted performance mode pops up on the dash. Deep joy

Popped the bonnet to find the hose in the picture below has split.

Question 1: will gaffer tape get me home on Friday if I can’t find the part tomorrow? It’s 100 miles and 2 hours Approx.

Question 2: there’s a misting of oil inside when I pulled the pipe - is that normal or indicative of something else?

Question 3: will I need the codes clearing after fixing with a hose or bodging with tape ??

Clean it up as well as you can and roll a couple of wraps of duck tape around it. Will outlast the car wink

I've bodged holes back with ducttape.. Just use lots as it'll loosen up in heat.. Try and keep off the loud pedal for too long..

Error code might/should reset after restarting the car I'd imagine?

Clean it up and go for it, plenty of layers a good few inches either way of the split and it ‘should’ hold.

Don’t these things make 25+psi of boost?

On the plus side, that’s a very easy part to change.

Loads of tape and a careful right foot and that’ll get you home.

Plumbers Shops sell A self amalgamating tape that bonds to itself, will easily hold that. It was designed to fix submarines.

As said previously, duck tape will do fine as a temporary fix.
I don't know about that specific engine but on many cars the crankcase breather will vent into the induction piping downstream of the air filter. Any oil vapour contained within will coat the inside of the piping.

If you've got till Friday get something like this from an automotive store or Amazon Prime...

https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/aw/d/B007554ZI6?psc=1&...

Who needs replacement parts. biglaugh

Edit: It only sticks to itself, so you stretch it and wrap it round lots. If you try to use it like Sellotape, it won't work as it has zero adhesive properties. thumbup

The oil misting is fairly normal.

If you find a local dealer you should be able to order and collect next day.

The only thing duct tape, of which duck is a brand, is not suitable for is ducts. It leaks.

Possibly. Tried it on a fiat ducato, and it lasted about 3 miles - there’s a reason why those tubes are thick!

Hope you get it sorted.

Tape won't work. You're in the best place for Landrover dealers and garages, ring one of them and get another hose put on it.

Interesting you should say that, I’ve called 4 local specialists and both LR Pickering and York first thing this morning. Nobody can’t get the part until tomorrow afternoon. By which time I’ll either be at home or on a recovery truck heading home.

I’ve done circa 30 miles today on this and it’s still going for now:-

If you now put about 3 jubilees over the top, not too tight then it would help hold it together.

New part is arriving at mine Saturday. I’ve bought a fresh roll of tape from b and q. Either it gets me home tomorrow or it’s on a recovery truck! hehe

Have you not got breakdown cover?

For future reference a good temporary repair is a product called Kraken Tape. Applied right holds pretty well. We use it roadside.

Yes I do. Hence the above statement of it’ll be on a recovery truck. I don’t like to waste their time if I can fix it myself, they’ve got plenty of numbnuts out there to deal with.

Good tip on kraken tape. Thanks

That pipe split on my old rangie (full fat 322) but it split underneath and it took a while to find it. I kept getting limp mode and had to keep re-starting the car to clear it...it was a small leak.

For those who still care, 4 hours and 170 ish miles of driving over two days and although it whistled a bit last 50, the tape finally broke loose 2 miles from home and it went back into limp mode.

If you find this on google and you’re in a pinch, silver gaffer tape could well get you home
