V5 yes, new vehicle no!
Discussion
Ok, just want to throw this out there and hear your opinions on what’s going on here!
I recently put an order in for a new company vehicle 14th July and was told it would be registered when they received it back from the company who was doing a few modifications to it all through the dealer so if it came back in September it would be a 70 plate, ok fair enough!
But after 2 weeks of the most painful credit agreement ever we finally put down the deposit.
About 5 days later we get a log book through the door for the new vehicle registered on 28th July!
Now call me strange if you want but I’m not really sure this is normal practice, nobody has even seen this thing yet it’s not even been delivered to the dealers or the modding company As far as I’m aware and we’ve been told it becomes a priority if it don’t arrive in 5 weeks, then it’s a normal 2 weeks to be modified!
Now how can I be the proud owner of something that don’t exist as of yet, who is responsible if it gets stolen even though I haven’t taken delivery?
Anybody out there who can enlighten me as to WTF is going on here, I don’t even have an invoice yet for the deposit!
Thanks in advance

V5 is not proof of ownership.I recently put an order in for a new company vehicle 14th July and was told it would be registered when they received it back from the company who was doing a few modifications to it all through the dealer so if it came back in September it would be a 70 plate, ok fair enough!

But it does sound strange that the car has already been registered to you without it being bought & paid for.
Possibly not unusual.
I took delivery of a new 1 series in July. It needed to be registered by the end of June to avoid the price increase due on 1st July and thus avoid the luxury car tax after the first year. It was registered and taxed whilst it was still at the port awaiting PDI.
In your case it might be that the supplying dealer needs to hit target and so needs it registered by the end of July. I'd be checking it's not taxed too otherwise you'll lose a month of tax

This has happened (is still happening) to me too. Put deposit down and signed credit agreement 31st July, V5 received late last week - car registered and taxed 31st July.
Delivery date? Still waiting on confirmation. I believe the car is still in Sheerness.
I'm told that logistics are a nightmare at the moment, and a lot of dealers are struggling to hit targets so registering cars asap while they figure out the rest. I'm keeping a very close eye on them - daily call backs from the dealer, as my finance payments start at the end of the month. Much longer and I'll be paying finance on a car I don't have, which clearly won't be acceptable.
