Israel - UAE Peace Deal
Discussion
The UAE is perhaps the most Liberal of all Arab states and so making peace with Israil in reality is just ink on the page where as in reality that nation has been pretty tolerant of others for decades (waiting for some one to pipe up about workes rights, gay rights no doubt but its the ME not western Europe folks).

They were still funny about Israelis visiting when I was there a few years back (2014?). A kid, probably 15 years old, with an Israeli passport was refused entry. Not sure if it was a German school or sports team he was travelling with.I think it’s pretty big news and nice to see the UAE taking the lead. I know their human rights history is atrocious, but at least they’re going in the right direction.

Incredible news! First (small) steps towards peace in the region?
No, because the UAE doesn't really have a dog in the fight to start with. And they'll probably break off relations again when Israel does something stupid.Strange move though, that caught me by suprise. More about the politics of competition between Arab states than relationships between them and Israel?
Peace is close to impossible in the Middle East given the current imbalance of power.

Great job. I'm sure the ultra-left will be along shortly to put their antisemitic spin on things, but despite what they will say, this deal is a step in the right direction.
No mention of the deal on Corbyns Twitter (or Abbots) odd as he was always banging on about how he supported peace all his career. considering the Israelis have said they still want to annex parts of the west bank, ad have continued to build settlements in Palestinian land - this "peace deal" is simply to try and make trump look good to jewish voters pre the election.
most of the arab world would rather see isreal wiped off the face of this world

the hate the sunni and shias have for each other only really extends to the religious nut cases and governmental power plays, the day to day man on the street couldn't really care less.
the day to day man on the street does however hate the isrealis
I was watching a video of an Iraqi cadet who had survived a mass execution by I.S. He is Shia and he'd never lived alongside Sunnis while growing up. He says he thought the Sunnis were bad until he met and worked with some and realised they were largely good people too. He thought that there were Sunnis from the deposed regime within I.S though.the day to day man on the street does however hate the isrealis
As much as it sounds a massive cliché, hearts and minds is important. To meet, to live with, to be exposed to the way of life of others and to see the good in them or the commonality.

I‘m probably wrong, but I thought that on the Arab side Saudi Arabia was the bestest partner to the US in the region. Turning a blind eye to their general mischievous behaviour of course. Is this a shot across their bows?
It's possibly the most backwards regime in the whole world, the source of funding for ISIS and the home of the 9/11 terrorists. However as long as they keep buying $billions in arms from both ourselves and the US in order to keep bombing Yemen, we'll keep turning a blind eye.
