Why is the US GP not held at Daytona? It seems obvious to me
Discussion
None of them have the required FIA licence grade 1 needed to host F1. Only COTA and Indy meet this standard in the US.
Laguna Seca and Road America in particular are more like club circuits compared to what F1 expects in terms of facilities and safety. Both would be completely destroyed in getting them to F1 standard. Laguna is also too short, and massively overrated.

So corners taken from 2 of the greatest tracks F1 has been to/goes to combined make it a terrible track? Can I have some of what you're smoking? Especially as the Daytona infield circuit is utter gash. It's short straights into tight hairpins that's it, people just get caught up on the banking being so steep. thegreenhell said:

Fair enough then. I'd never want to see a perfectly good track butchered (like Spa, Hockenheim, Silverstone etc) just so they can hold a F1 race there.. That's why I'm glad they don't go to Brands any more.DOCG said:

OP, what is it about COTA that makes it "a dump" in your opinion?
A boring track with no character, all the corners are just copied from other circuits like Silverstone or InstanbulI get this, but it surely was the same question linked to indy, and that track was fairly tame featureless, yet provided us the odd good race even before DRS because of that long corner and straight. The elephant int he room obviously being the 6 car race.
But the infield was horrible surely!
Daytona has enough big events, two Nascar races, the 24. Supercross

I'm not sure what you expect to get at Daytona that COTA doesn't provide, other than a pointlessly steep banking that isn't taken at particularly high speed.
Daytona is also flat as a pancake.
