959 on the road
Discussion
Never really liked the 959s. Body looked too big for the wheels.
Funny really, 17” where considered big at the time and Bridgestone had to design a special tyre to fit, yet these days a Boxster looks ‘under-wheeled’ on 17s.
I remember values rocketed before the 1990s crash and they became quite unpopular due to the complex maintenance costs.
And even when the general market started to climb, 10 years ago, they were still languishing under £100k.
The one above looks nice in white, but not the odd ‘70s sidestripe.

I’d never really noticed how kit car the 959 looks when viewed from directly behind. Not it’s best angle !
I vaguely remember reading that they were going to launch the 964 Turbo with a similar rear end to the 959. But didn't in the end due to cost. Great spot though, I've never seen one on the road.

Incredibly expensive to run; kudos to those who still run theirs.
Note comment at foot of piece: https://k500.com/story-item/test-drive-mel-nichols...Canepa “reimagine” i.e. refurbish and updated 959’s now....there’s a bit about it In this video. The whole video and the second one are worth a watch but the bit about 959’s is after about 12 mins https://youtu.be/SAVfBg97KdY
You can see why some of their used inventory is as expensive as it is ! Bruce Canepa’s collection in the second video is pretty impressive
