Can anyone tell me what cars fitted su HIF6 carbs, I need to throw away my stroms and fit 4 to jag engined cobra? Any 11/2 or 13/4 central float chamber will do.

I was about to say late MGB had HIF, but they were HIF4, not HIF6.

Why specifically 4 HIF's tho? They'll be a nightmare to balance and tune - would you not be better getting a couple of Webber's or Dellorto's? innocently asked from my experience of HS4's not the afore mentioned

Are 4's 11/2 and 6's 13/4? Thanks for reply. I need 4 for a v12 jag or else fabricate new manifolds (nightmare work and expense!).Webbers or dellortos, same scenario and I would need 6!!
Cheers

ouch!

As I say I'm not an expert, but on HS4 they have a 1/2" bore, and the HS6's have a 3/4" bore. HIF are a similar design just with external float chamber (if memory serves - they have external petrol chamber) so would presume the numbers mean the same.

Have a look over at www.mgcars.org.uk, the BBS and more specifically the BBS archive will have oodles of posts about carbs and the like. Maybe nothing specific to this question, but it's a good starting point - they also have BBS's for other makes as well...

IMHO, finding a suitable manifold and/or getting one made up is a better option than trying to tune 4 or 6 carbs mind. Thats speaking from a inexperienced amateur who stuggles with two mind...

The early Rover V8 ran on a pair of SUs, HIF6 I think. You can get them fairly cheaply on eBay. A pair of those is good for 400 bhp +, so four should be 'adequate'.

Many thanks for your input, chaps, very helpful.
I may have sourced 4 from a local chap who specialises in MG's. I'll know next week if they are suitable and will let you know in case anyone else wants the same. Mind you setting them up every week will keep me out of the pub!!
