Hi, I am importing a 76 Porsche 911 still wearing original metallic silver paint. It is from a dry state so has cool sunburn to the clearcoat and patching.
I want to preserve it without damaging it. I assume it will need a light hand cut to remove oxidation but not enough to remove the remaining clear coat?

I have bought a tin of renaissance wax to protect it once it has been 'cleaned'

I also intend to use a waterless cleaning product for the initial decontamination. I don't want to use water incase the seals are perished.

This is my first rodeo so grateful for advice.

If original paint it may not even have a clearcoat finish

It could have been painted in whats called single layer metallic.

If this is the case you need to be careful with trying to restore the faded paint and not use to harsh a polish/compound.

But to be honest the chances are it will have had paintwork in the last 40 years and will have had cleacoat applied.
