I think it is fair to say that they have had worse weeks than this one

Well done to him, but "ex pizza delivery boy" makes him out to be something he's not.
It's like saying chairman of Hastings insurance (soon to be worth 200m) is an ex-waiter, because that's what his first job as a schoolboy was, or describing myself (not that I'm worth 200m) as an ex-market stall worker.
Its only relevant in my view if he was doing that in his 20s and pulled himself up by his boot straps.
They might as well say ex-schoolboy

To be fair, he’s not got a lot else on his cv
University dropout and PizzaHut quitter doesn’t sound quite as positive.
Not even a proper uni....

And it's his fault we've got all these social influencers now.
These things always seem so random - daughter of some (well off, and well connected in consumer products) friends of ours does sportswear with lots of social media work but it's never taken off.

I think it is largely random when it comes to things like fashion, isn't it?

There must be a thousands fashion brands following the same business and marketing model as them. Gymshark's clothing doesn't look remarkably different from any of other gym fashion brands. However, it just happened to be the one which got traction and an investor wanted to pay £200m for a 20% stake in.

Anyone a customer of a brand?
Just wondering why it is worth so much, and if the likes of Nike or Mike Ashley may come along and take a bog chunk of their sales- as its just clothing. Is it a fashionable brand that may fall out of favor?

I think, nowadays, you are essentially paying for social media access/connectivity to a particular demographic.Just wondering why it is worth so much, and if the likes of Nike or Mike Ashley may come along and take a big chunk of their sales- as its just clothing. The stuff you are selling seems secondary to that.
The Beeb did an article on Gym Shark a few years ago - he's done well since then.
It's a fantastic result for the guy, but I'd be looking to get as much cash as possible by selling some or all of the brand to investors now.
Recent history is littered with casual wear fashion brands that were seen everywhere for a few years then disappear without trace - Jack Wills, Joe Bloggs, Stussy, Juicy Couture, etc etc. They burn brightly but don't last long.

They've definitely done well exploiting the social media generation.
I doubt the quality is any better than offerings from others, and I suspect it's all manufactured in the far east. So from the product point of view, I doubt they have anything particularly special compared to the other big players in sportswear.
They've certainly done well targeting the sort of people that think looking good whilst working out is just as important as the actual workout. You can spot those at the gym who are training for their sport or with purpose, they are never wearing Gymshark.
