I know this sounds stupid but I have a couple of Porsche owning friends who between them have put me of a Mclaren
So one has a lovely 15 plate GT4 and it is perfect in size and ideal weekend / fun car
The other has a 992 which is an ideal more useable car with the advantage of 4 seats and is more usable to and look very nice
A new Gt4 costs about the same as 992
A used GT4 cost about the same as a used 991
So question is anyone owned a GT4 and a 991/992 at the same time that can give me some feedback on how the 2 compare
I know they will be chalk and cheese and if I had more money I would have both as a perfect 2 car garage but right now I can go for a used or new GT4 or a used or new 992.
The car does to need to my daily as it would be a fun car / weekend car / nice weather take it for a blast car if that makes sense
Which would give more fun and lose the least money over 3 years as it wold be nice to trade up / sideways to another Porsche some day

Can’t help specifically but I would have a 991.2 GTS over any 992...made before summer of 2018 so it doesn’t have GPF fitted (sounds a lot better) You don’t say you’re doing any track work so would have a 991.2 GTS over a GT4 from your described use.

I currently own a 981 GT4 (since new) and now also a 991.2 GTS with a couple of thousand miles on it, so pretty much as new. Both superb cars but they go about their business in very different ways.

The GT4 is a fully engaging weekend type car which great on the road and track. The GTS is a lovely GT that cam munch miles and get down the road very quickly and is also very good on track. I cant say one is ‘better’ than than the other as they are so different. Love them both for different reasons.

May be the 911 991.2 T is worth a look then

Fits in between those two.

Don’t under estimate the GT4 as a road car, its epic for weekend blasts and trips to the Alps etc. Just the right amount of power and the chassis is so predictable and balanced. Very involving with the gearbox and epic noise. Much fun.

Not a bad shout but I’ve never really seen the point of the T, just get an S or better a GTS.

I agree sort of , but a lot of T's have buckets so maybe the only way to get 991.2 with bucket seats so you feel a bit more connected to the car over a S or a GTS.

I don’t see the point of a comfort T that’s for sure.

I've owned a 981GT4,991.2GTS PDK and 992CS and my least favourite by a significant margin was the 992..Very fast car and capable like a fast BM but totally lacking in character and soul..Best car out of those would be the 991.2GTS but a Coupe in Manual and folding bucket seats and RAS..

Perfect 2 car garage I would say.
Which is the better fast spirited road car ?

Don't plan on doing track days just a weekend blast around Scotland to get over the stress of work etc
Bt I would like something engaging and fun rather than just outright speed.

Thats interesting to hear as that is pretty much the shortlist but maybe a 991.2 Gtr with PDK possibly.
I now regret turning down a 2018 991.2 GTS in lovely green with 27 miles on it

Difficult. For an involved sensory drive the GT4, but the GTS is mighty quick and easier to extract the performance from. Which ever one I’ve just got out of is generally my favourite.

Reading the authors other posts, I would say the GT4 is the right car for your needs out of the three you have listed. I’ve driven my GT4 around Scotland and its mega.

As a weekend toy car / not a daily, which I think you mention - I’d go 981 GT4 or if you have to go 911 I’d go manual 991 as PDK as a weekend toy would, IMHO only be boring, but as a daily a 991.2 PDK GTS is perfect - but it’s more of a very fast luxury GT than anything else.

Depreciation wise both a 981 GT4 or a 991.2 GTS will not be as bad as a 718 GT4 or a 992.

TBH as weekend toy that will hold value better than most, I’d have a 981 Spyder. As a weekend toy where value is less of an issue, I’d have a 718 Spyder with a JCR titanium race pipe fitted. (Or a 718 GT4 with the same)

Good luck on your search - but in truth, ignore everything you read here and go and drive them and you decide ! smile

I got out of my GT4 and replaced it with a 991.2 C4 GTS.

its the 2nd best car swap I've done. The first was 991GT3 to 997.2GT3RS

The GTS is PDK too, having had a taste of the modern manual box in the GT4 the PDK made too much sense for what will be a road car. And WHAT a road car it is. it just does everything with ease. The rear steer and 4WD make the driving dynamic very different to previous 'normal' 991's that I've driven. Its difficult to describe but its not a '911' feel in the traditional sense of the word. It's closer to the GT4 than my 993 if that makes sense?

The PDK box is great, I don't use the flaps - IMHO they are there for BS Bragging rights - actually I tell I lie, I used them the other day because it dropped a gear too many than was actually needed to complete the overtake and I wasn't in the mood for the noise.

Drive them all.... then decide. Whats important to me or any other owner may not be as important to you.. and vice versa.

Thanks, I have been so keen on a 911 for years and now that I am in a position to buy one , along comes the GT4 around the same price new v new and used v used . Typical you wait ages to buy a Porsche and 2 come along at once that are suitable lol
I wish I could buy both a 911 and a GT4 what a combo that would be. Maybe sell my MB S class next year and buy a 911 as a daily

Another good shout and not one I had even considered.
I know this sounds very strange considering the GT4 is in the mix , but if I went for a 911 I would rather have the rear seats as it makes it more practicable . If I want a 2 seater I would rather get a 2 seamer if that makes sense ( hence why I toyed briefly with the idea of a 570S, before I got scared by the stories). Plus for me I think a 911 PDK would be a nice place
I know my choices seem weird but these are weird times
