Looks like a great trip. Is that your boat or a rental?

Rental, from Anglo Welsh. From looking at the other boats on the canal, we'd probably use ABC in the future. Boat was a bit tired, with noisy old engine compared to a lot of the newer hire fleets we saw.

Apologies if it was mentioned in the video, as I have no sound, but is there a token system or similar to ensure that two boats don't meet in the middle? Or is visibility good enough that it's not needed?

It’s pretty impressive standing in the valley below looking up at it too!

It’s a stunning piece of engineering. Can you imagine it being built now? It simply wouldn’t happen.

Well it would take 50 years of consultations with green activists, and eventually cost £100bn and look st. They call it progress.

I've walked across it. I'm not very happy with heights, but I also can't swim and found myself more concerned about falling into the canal as some people with mountain bikes passed on the fence side. Silly, given it's about 18" deep. Height would probably be more of a concern from a boat, where there is no fence.

I've done it twice, and the odd thing is that I didn't get much sensation of height. Maybe because most of your view is taken up by narrowboat and the towpath/fence.

It's a bit deeper than that, but you'd be able to stand up!

It is remarkable that modern safety concerns haven't meant a fence being added on the outside - if you're on a boat you can just step off into the big drop!

Cheaper to close it. One of the few places to boat where you need a parachute not a lifejacket!

See what you mean about the engine.
