Questionable ads

Was just in the Retailers 2020 thread in NP&E and this ad appeared

Which seemed a bit odd as it didn't fit with my phone browsing habits, clicking it takes you to some Keto Diet page, which will then auto redirect to some shady dating site.
What's that all about?

Mod edit to remove NSFW image. Thanks for reporting.

Ads are tailored to your search history.

Or via keywords from comments, hence why the current ad is for porcelain tiles
Despite me never searching for porcelain tiles, I did read this thread earlier though
https://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&...
Which mentions porcelain tiles

Thanks For flagging, definitely NSFW I've reported it to the ads team in Boston to look into.
Hi Sam, I have just had 12 notifications in the space of 2 minutes informing me of a forgotten password and a link to how to change it.Is there somebody in particular I can talk to about this.
The messages are purporting to be from adverts@pistonheads
Thanks , Rob.

“Ignore them” is the usual advice. Is there somebody in particular I can talk to about this.

ETA. It’s a silly thing, and has been since dinosaurs roamed the Earth, but anyone can trigger the password reset email with just a username. Just click the ‘Forgotten your password?’ bit at the forum sign-in page and put whoever you like in.

Hey gooner1,
As bigandclever mentioned, you will have received this email as someone will have entered your username or email into the Forgotten Password functionality.
The general advice for when this occurs (at PH as well as elsewhere) is to simply disregard the email.
With the nature of a forum such as PH, and the fact your username is publicly visible, there is of course a higher likelihood that someone would do this.. there are possible enhancements to this that we have considered such as requiring both username and email are entered, however there are some complexities both technically and in terms of usability to consider here before making any changes. The fundamental nature of a Forgotten Password functionality to send you an email is unavoidable though. We are considering making an update to the email message to make it clearer that it can be ignored if was not requested by yourself.
Hope this helps explain it

With respect it doesn’t explain it at all. As bigandclever mentioned, you will have received this email as someone will have entered your username or email into the Forgotten Password functionality.

What’s the point of asking me to report it if nothing will or can be done? Another 5 this morning btw.
No worries, I can appreciate that this is frustrating, and no offence taken!
To further clarify:
- The idea of updating the email message is to replace the instruction to report this to us with a more correct note along the lines of that this email can be safely disregarded if you did not request it.. i.e. the lowest level of effort to make it clearer to users what to do when receiving an unexpected one of these emails.
- Forgotten password via requesting it for an email/username is an industry standard approach, and unfortunately can be subject to this kind of abuse.. that said, there are some measures that can be explored to reduce it.. however, we have a large platform to manage/improve and as such we have many different workstreams to prioritise.. as it stands currently, more fundamental changes to this (e.g. requiring two different data values, limiting how often it can be requested, etc, etc) is unlikely to get attention immediately. That's not to say that priority won't change in future, just as it is there are too many plates spinning to warrant shelving existing work to make further changes to this right now.
In the meantime, to reduce noise in your inbox, I would suggest applying a filter to catch these by Subject for now and route them to a folder.
I appreciate that this as a solution for you isn't ideal, but I am just trying to be as candid as possible regarding our priorities/efforts..
Hope that helps clear things up a little
