I was wondering what the legality of this is? I had a one to one chat with my line manager recently, and from their emailed summary of events, I assume they must have recorded the Teams meeting. Should they have told me it was being recorded? I am in Scotland if that makes a difference.

I may have imagined this I’m sure ours has a red light on to let you know when when its being recorded?

Also there is message at the top that comes up saying something like "this session is being recorded, by participating you consent to this".

While recording in teams will display the message about meeting being recorded a user can screen record a meeting using 3rd party software which will not be known to Teams and so a warning will not be displayed.

Thanks for the replies - I hadn't noticed any message about recording.

Why are you worried about it? Would you be worried if they had taken written minutes at a normal meeting?

It was just a bit disconcerting/sneaky. It was just a chat, not a full blown meeting. At least, that's what I thought...

OP, have you tried the ICO website to see if there is any guidance on this?

Was it actually recorded or not? I have been on various Teams meetings, multiple times a day now if course, and some people just record by accident. Even if it is recorded, do the minutes reflect the meeting? If not then review them and amend/append as necessary.

Have you considered that your manager was just well prepared and had all his or her notes prepared and just read from a script?

With the amount of detail they put into the notes, it was like they had watched a recording and summarised each point. I though we were having a casual chat but the follow up email made it seem much more formal. I hadn't struck this before but will be aware of it in the future.

I was just wondering if they need to tell staff it's being recorded.

Anyway, thanks for all your input.

Could be recording it by any number of methods used historically. Could have a memory that works smile

If it was recorded you can look back in the activity tab on the left in Teams and will see the recording.

Personally, I wouldn't let it occupy you mind. Meetings whether informal or formal, have always been recorded via notes, minutes, audio and now, video.

It benefits you as much as them.

Providing the video isn't circulated or published on You Tube, there's no legal issue.

If you don't mind me asking it looks like the topic of the meeting was somewhat sensitive?

For pretty much all my meetings the secretary normally just lists the action points. There's little point in writing "he said, she said" unless what they were talking about was significant.
