A5 3.0 TDi or...?
Discussion
Folks, currently have a 2007 V 70 D5 automatic. It does everything I need it to however is now on 250,000 miles and also has a weird engine management fault that I can’t get rid of. Long and short of it, I need to replace it soon.
Criteria:
-Preferably coupe or similar. Don’t really need to haul a huge estate around. Auto without a doubt.
-Definitely want climate control, decent stereo and comfy seats (Volvo ticks all of these!)
-Relatively powerful.
-Not much less than 35mpg average. Volvo currently on about 38.
-Up to about £7k.
-Up to about 120k
My commute is 50 miles per day on an awful a road. For this reason particularly in the winter I need something relatively solid and robust. I like the look of the A5 and particularly the bang and olufsen stereo. I think for the mileage and power requirements are diesel would be the way to go. However 3 L A5s in my price bracket tend to be slightly leggy. Or indeed bruvved.
Any alternative suggestions, something I’ve missed?
Cheers

Jaguar XF, CLK/CLS?....the first option offers particularly good VFM, although I appreciate not a coupe.
Cheers,
Chris
Totally agree with XF. Cheers,

Had an XFS for 18 months and loved it. Plenty of power, decent economy and great looker too. Bonus of having the best seats I’ve ever had in a car and could honestly munch the miles without an ache or pain. They were heated and cooled too

Not a coupe but sleek enough lines not to look like a crap box saloon and ticks all your other boxes.

BMW E92 (Coupe) 330d maybe?
It'll have dual-zone climate and a Sport model will have the lovely M-Sport seats. Stereo isn't great though unless you find one with the Harmon Karden option.
Good shout. I think i prefer the look of the A5 but I’ve definitely been considering them, haven’t seen any yet of an appealing spec... ideally want something with sensible sized wheels It'll have dual-zone climate and a Sport model will have the lovely M-Sport seats. Stereo isn't great though unless you find one with the Harmon Karden option.

This is lovely (if I sold wheels and replaced them with 17/18s!).

An E Coupe is the same size as an A5.

Well that wouldn't be a problem - you'd probably end up in profit! This is lovely (if I sold wheels and replaced them with 17/18s!).
I bought an E91 325i in 2018 that came on 16" wheels with winter tyres and bought a set of 17s from an F30 with summer Pirellis off Gumtree for less than £200.
For balance I've had an '09 A5 3.0 for coming up 4 years now and can't think of anything to replace it with. I've taken it from 83k to 137k and have hardly spent anything on it apart from servicing.
However if your commute is "bad" roads then I wouldn't recommend getting one with the 20" wheels I live in the country and mine eats tyres, and they're ~£250 per corner. I have mine 4 wheel aligned about every 3 months too as they wear on the inside, oh and also I have bust a couple on pot holes. The Sline suspension with the 20" is like being pushed down stairs in a washing machine.
Despite the above I still love it

No... I have a bit of a mental association between ‘6 series’ and ‘ruinous’ although possibly that’s just the v12 older ones!
