My contracts up next month on my p20 pro and there doesn't seem to be anything at all out there to challenge the Chinese spy phone really. Unfortunately I've smashed both the glass lens covers for the cameras so they don't work brilliantly these days and it's a bit beat up but I really can't see anything that's worth spending 30+ a month on at all.

Anything new going to revolutionise the mobile industry in the next few months?

Nope, just the usual Samsung, Google Pixel and iPhone releases nothing massive.

How about drop down to a sim only contract, save £££ and have the glass replaced on current phone?

Get an Indian Spy Phone - The Realme Pro 6 !

I've just taken delivery of a S20 and it's identical to the S8 but Wifi Calling doesn't work. It's going back and I'll stick with the realme!

I've been hooked on the iphone carousel for a few years but due to circumstances beyond my control (a wife with a propensity for damaging phones but with more need for it than me due to her business) I somehow ended up on my £38 a month contract but with an old 6S with a battery life of about 14 minutes

I went out last week and spent £140 on a Motorola One Macro rather than another iphone and have to say I'm impressed with it so far for what I need it to do

As it stands will be more than happy to go to a SIM only contract when it's due in Feb and save myself £30 a month!!

Realme is Chinese, not Indian:

Parent organization: BBK Electronics
Founder: Sky Li
Founded: 4 May 2018
Headquarters: Shenzhen, China

I'll never buy a Chinese phone for as long as I can help it.

The Pixel 4a is getting great reviews and at a sensible price.

I like HTC phones, but they are not so easy to get over here.

Not really an upgrade over the P20 Pro though to be honest less battery, almost identical processor specs, less camera.

And I'm a long term Pixel user.

Why not? Genuine question.

Some people are just happy with new thing whether they are better or not though, bloke at work who travels from Yorkshire to Bucks twice a week traded his 55 plated Passat 1.9TDI estate for an 06 plated Suzuki Grand Vitara petrol because it was newer, Passat had cruise control, full leather etc but he did it because the Suzuki was "newer"

Had a OnePlus when all this happened:

https://www.chrisdcmoore.co.uk/post/oneplus-analyt...

https://betanews.com/2017/10/11/oneplus-telemetry/

Swore I'd never have another OnePlus at that point - Chinese phone company collecting data off to who-knows-where without consent? fk THAT. I'd even opted out of allowing any data collection when setting up the phone initially. Every single Chinese company is obligated to provide information to the Chinese governmenton demand, one of the reasons Huawei are being booted out of the UK's phone infrastructure for example. Also why the rise of TikTok is so worrying.

"When US officials were pressed in early 2019 to provide evidence that Huawei, the Chinese telecommunications giant, had facilitated spying on the US and its allies, they pointed out that Beijing had already made their case for them: first with the party’s systematic infiltration of private companies, and second with the introduction of a new national intelligence law in 2017. The law states that “any organisation and citizen” shall “support and cooperate in national intelligence work”."

Yes I give up a certain amount of information to companies like Google by using Android - however they can, at least, be held to account for their practices. Importantly, I've also consented. I don't want data about me (especially from something with as much personal information in it as a phone) being collected without my knowledge or consent by a company that may be obligated to give that information to a foreign government which can't be held to account - furthermore, they have no need or right to collect or gather information on me.

Since then I've also now extended my avoidance of Chinese stuff as far as possible for moral reasons. I can't avoid everything (they've got their fingers in too many pies for that) but I'll do what I can.

Problem is though half the silicon is produced in China so the data can be harvested at much lower levels in phones that aren't *Chinese*
But it's not like the Americans weren't replacing firmwares in Cisco routers and switches so they could spy wink

P30 Pro is serving me well and nothing new is good enough to replace it. Runs everything well incl some heavy games that I've tried

If China is spying I've also bought my wife the same phone. Hopefully they read all her messages and listen to her calls and the pure crap and boredom will stop them quick enough!
