This morning I took a Vauxhall GTC for a test drive (not VXR; just a lukewarm version).

Before I was allowed to take it out, the dealer wanted my licence, NI card and proof of address (bank statement) so they could run a check on my driving licence, apparently specifically looking for any penalty points.

I've never had that before.

Is this a new Cv19 thing due to the salesman not being able to accompany a customer on test drive?

I believe this is due to insurance constraints. If the driver has more than a pre-defined amount of points, they won’t insure you.

Car hire companies often do the same, I’ve seen Europcar do this often. I’ve also seen an Audi main dealer do the same check before giving out a courtesy car.

The only odd thing is the way they got the information. Since the government portal went live with the “sharing code”, I’ve not had to provide any physical copies of anything.
