Currently looking at a new (used) car for myself. It’s about 6 years old and hybrid - unfortunately prices are still quite strong which I suspect is to do with ULEZ and the reliability of the marque.

I’m eagerly watching the values but the cars that are in the range I want to pay have mileage that’s approx 20k pa, I’m looking for closer to 10k. Otherwise prices have been as strong as they were pre-CV.

Is there likely to be any movement in used car price as the new registrations are introduced in September and March? Or in the new calendar year?

I’m not that keen on waiting but currently holding out on a reduction.

There may be a reduction come November and December given the current economic climate of the country, end of Furlough etc, recession on the horizon, maybe, or then again maybe those in financial difficulties will look to offload their luxury cars and buy a more run of the mill hybrid car and values will stay strong as a result?

It's really anyones guess, I know that's probabl;y not what you want to hear.

Used values across the board are anticipated to remain strong into the autumn and winter.

Seasonal fluctuation are largely an internet myth anyway.

Very interesting.

No doubt demand and prices are strong at the moment due to the pent up demand from lockdown and other reasons discussed at length in the other thread.

What is the evidence to show that demand and prices will remain strong right through to winter?

The only used vehicles which are anticipated to depreciate will be pre euro 6 diesels. The supply of quality used stock is still severely limited and whilst furlough payments ending towards the winter and rising unemployment will somewhat reduce demand, the supply of stock will also reduce thus maintaining prices.

Certain high end cars have softened but most stock is still selling well in great demand and rarer stuff still strengthening in value.

There have always been seasonal factors but this year the school holiday one hasn't been nearly as significant, for obvious reasons!

But I suspect Christmas will still have a big impact.

It certainly did in 2019 when I bought my current car, and the hangover didn't do me any favours when I was selling its predecessor in January. rolleyes
