Hi,

In the b2c world - when a company sends x hundred products to y hundred customers, do they get information back from their delivery partners about when the products were delivered?

E.g.

Parcel 1 - Picked up 1st January @ 1000, Delivered 2nd January @ 1230
Parcel 2 - etc etc

If they do, does this information cost more? How often is it provided? Do only certain companies provide it,

Many thanks for any insight smile

Yes.

No, part of the overall costs. In the old days you would get the POD signature too.

Easy access to info on same website as bookings are placed, some carriers even itemise on their bills.

We use DHL, and every night I get emailed exception reports... It lists parcels that haven't been delivered with the reason stated, either because they are delayed, recipient not in, business closed etc etc.

Means every morning at 8am I look at that, and I know about all the issues before the customers start phoning up having a moan.

All the major players have APIs for electronically manifesting deliveries and providing PODs (Proof of Delivery) as well as exception statements, parcels which caused surcharges, customs data and so on.

Guys - Many thanks for all your responses, really helpful - it’s not an area I know anything about so really appreciate it.

Some will do but it depends on their unit cost, providing this information specifically will be built into their shipping cost. For those companies who ship thousands per day it's likely not worth their while and they would only investigate if a customer were to complain they had not received their shipment.
