Normally I pay for my gym membership yearly on my debit card. It saves a little on the monthly payment option. My membership is due at the end of the month but I’m hesitant to pay the full amount in case they go bust, as it has been very quiet due to covid.

I’ve had a quick google but I can’t see clearly if I were to pay on a credit card would I have section 75 protection on any unused months membership? The total yearly membership is over £100, but wasn’t sure if being a service rather than an item that I would be covered for any unused months in the case of it going belly up.

I’m sure there’s a clear answer somewhere.

What is the additional surcharge for paying monthly? Surely this is the safest way as you can just cancel the direct debit immediately and don’t have to worry about chasing around trying to get your money back.

Had this happen to myself a few years ago.

The gym had a deal on a 3 year membership, paid with my credit card and gym went bust about 12 months later. I managed to claim back the remaining pro-rata amount from my credit card company.

Sounds like I should be covered then.

There isn't a great deal of difference is the two amounts to be honest just I've always paid yearly. Something in my head just thinks once it's paid of that's it out of the way. I've never had to think about it going busy before though.

Same happened to me about 10 years ago now but I imagine things haven't changed much protection wise.

s75 covers any breach of contract between 100 and 30000 - so covers goods or services

Or save £100+ and run up and down the stairs every day?

I’ve tried training at home. I only do weight lifting, although I’m a long way from a powerfully built director. I just can’t get motivated. If I go to the gym to lift weights, I’m in the zone there and have a much better workout. I would love to be one of those people who can train at home but it’s not me.
