Hi there, my GT3 annoyingly came with Dunlop’s and I’m considering changing to Michelin’s and wondered if anyone had tried the new Cup 2 connects yet ?

I will use on track occasionally but I’m most interested in them as a fast road tyre vs the Dunlop’s and Cup 2’s.

I’m not really interested in the “connect” side of the tyre, more that it’s apparently another move on technically as a tyre from the Cup 2’s - so again, really interested in any real world view on this too?

I know Michelin Ps4s tyres are another alternative for the road, but I’d prefer the best tyre when conditions are right and I’ll be very careful when they aren’t, than to compromise with a wider band width tyre.

The car has only done 180 miles, but the geometry is not right and it’s going in to be set up properly soon and I thought it might be sensible to set it up on the tyres I would ultimately want to end up with. As such, I thought it might be best to bite the bullet and do this all in one go as I’m not sure if the Geo would need re doing at a later date, if I was to swap from the Dunlop’s to the Michelin’s; maybe it would be fine and as such, I could wait and replace the Dunlop’s when worn ?

All thoughts most welcome.

smile

P.S Dunlop’s have 180 miles on them if anyone’s interested.

The latest Dunlops are pretty good tyres to be honest just not as good as the new Cups in the wet..The previous gen tyres it was the other way round..The Dunlops are better at higher pressures compared to the Cups even up to 38psi where the Cups need to be kept under 35psi..
I'm pretty tight when it comes to wasting money so i'd be loathe to throw away an effectively brand new set of tyres..I'd wait to see how you get on with them before doing anything drastic..Yellow 491's new RS WP is on Dunlops so if i was you i'd send him a PM to see what he thinks of them..
He's at Donny today so try him in the next few days after he's sobered up and in a better mood..biggrin

My 991.2gt3 came on dunlops when i purchased it around end of january, they were then swapped out for a set of MPS4S which were destroyed within 3 track days and not many road miles, cords were starting to show on the fronts and not to far away at the rears too..we cut a day at donny park short because of them..really should have flipped the tyres side to side before hand..

My car was then sent to JCR / string theory for there fast road / track geo and a set of MPSC2 were fitted the same time.
Car felt more planted on both the road and the track and gave you more confidence throughout, the tyre wear was much more gradual and there wasn't any signs of extreme wear at the edges after good few track days and road driving.
HTH.

Sure Johnny C @ JCR can advise.

Good call on all fronts - I should have been there today, but a lack of a helmet of all things stopped that happening ! frown

Cheers - been speaking to Jonny, who's a real gent - it was him who suggested the new Michelins - I guess I just wondered if anyone could advise on me doing the Geo with the Dunlops and then swapping to the Michelins later; would I then need another Geo as the tyres are different ? smile

no just different pressures on tyres if tracked that's all.
