Water under driver's mat

After washing the car I find water under the driver's mat. I've Fabsilled the roof, so what's next to check? The water is gathered in the groove under the carpet that is nearest to the door and the others seem dry, if that helps.

Go under the bonnet and check the rubber seals around all the cables going through the inner wings. Chances are the water from your washing is going down the bonnet cutouts, running along a cable and dripping into the footwell.

Forgot to say, if it is this, put some standard silicone sealer around the cable as it goes through the grommit.

Have you got the triangular rubber bits that sit on the fold down part of the hood, at the lowest part of the hoor nearest the door. they should sit on the fibreglass just behind the rubber seal.

The trianglular bits are on the inside of the car btw

Something else to check - clutch master cylinder, is there a leak in the mastic that seals this in?

Yes, rubber bits on doors are intact. Master cylinder thing? Where's that then?

This sealant stuff you speak of....is this just a tube of stuff I can buy from Halfords a bit like bath sealant? God I'm soo mechanically minded....

You can get silicon sealant from any DIY shop.

If it's that rainy I'll keep it in the garage as I've only just cleaned all the French flies (flies, not fries) of it from the weekend.

I had this problem myself and it damn near drove me to insanity!

The worst culprits - and this is widely acknowledged - are the inspection hatch near the brake fluid reservoir and the brake fluid reservoir. Replace the sealant around both if it's old and crusty looking. In fact, if you're having problems, rip it all out and re-do it. It won't take long. Even the smallest of gaps / holes will let in water. At least you'll know it's not either of those!
