Hypnosis, does it really exist?

I'm not talking self-help anti smoking type hypnosis,
But rather Spanish holiday resort bottomless sangria entertainment type.
About 15 years ago I went to exactly the above, 150 people in a large hall, about 8 people were picked from the audience, me and my dad being 2 of them, He then did the look into my eyes, feeling sleepy spiel, he then asked if it had worked on everyone and if we were indeed 'under', 5 of the 7 people did as commanded and did a bow or something silly to confirm , me and my dad both said no, and went to sit down.
The remaining 5 people are then commanded to do increasingly embarrassing things, from stripping off, to pretending to be a dog.
Does this actually 'exist' as a thing? My theory is, on holiday, with mates, a few sangrias in them, they WANT it to work, so when in front of 150 people and they start off confirming they are indeed under, they feel obliged to go along with it, but actually, they are awake and aware.

Selecting people to take part in stage hypnosis shows - the hypnotist wants people that are i) willing and ii) demonstrative
Imagine if you had 10 hypnotised people and you had them imagine riding the grand national
One would sit there like a statue imagining it - she would be having a great time, but no one would know
Eight would sort of do a bit of acting it out
One would be giving it a right go, whipping the horse, tugging the reins etc.
That's the one you want on stage for the rest of the show

Went to see hypnotist as parts of a works Christmas trip, nightclub type of thing. A friend of mine was called on along with 10 others, he is the most ordinary bloke you can imagine. He was hypnotised and told that the woman he as stood next to was his girlfriend and was invited to get friendly, which he did, she was also under and told that this bloke was her favourite film star, it was hilarious.
When he sat down I asked him what had happened and he said that he heard the instructions but did not believe he had done anything, he said it was just like a dream.

No, they are hypnotised. Hypnotising someone is easy. Putting together a group on stage that will make a decent show is part of the stage hypnotist's craft[ pretending to give someone a BJ, act like a cat, act like they have s

She is looking for people that will be very demonstrative and will do things that entertain the crowd, not just sit there with it all going on in their head
That's why she gets so many up on stage and rejects most. Less to do with her ability to hypnotise them and more to do with how she feels they will act out the scenarios she has in mind.
There have been various studies about how far someone will go when hypnotised. For an example, if you watch Derren Brown's Pushed to the Edge, it ends with the subject refusing to push someone off a roof.

Went to a live show, they ask for audience members to come on stage, I go up with about 20 others, basically to call the guy out and prove him wrong. End up doing stupid stuff on stage for 5 minutes or so, sit back down, don't really know what happened, was like a dream, kind of knew what was going on, didn't really care at the time!
I was told that of the 20 of us on stage, only 7 remained, the rest sat down again as it didn't work!
Odd, still not sure i fully believe it.

Interesting, I'm just cautious because if even a small percentage of the population can beks.Well that is what I thought.

hypnotised for entertainment purposes then it's entirely possible for such powers to be used for
nefarious purposes, a la The Manchurian Candidate.
If one can hypnotise someone to dance like a chicken you can hypnotise a stooge to
push your business rival off a cliff.
