Morning All,

After a bad experience with a North Flag recently (scratches that the AD tried/failed to get out) I'm getting a refund and looking at alternatives. There doesn't seem to be much else like it which is what attracted me in the first place. Damasko DA36 is as close as I've seen so far.

Any suggestions - £1.5k - £2.5k?

Cheers!

Have a look round the Guinand range.

Helmut Sinn's company making less than a thousand quality watches a year in Frankfurt. smile

How about a North Flag without scratches from a different AD?

Thanks for the suggestions! I like some of the Guinands but they don't do a similar style to the NF. The Sinn is a good shout!

I get 25% off at this particular AD but this was their last one. That plus the fact that UK stock has dried up following the discontinuation means I'm looking at other models.

Frazer heart Colchester had one in their window on the strap last week.

Personally unless its the technical equivalent of the NF I would hold course for one even consider VGC good used

Cheers, might have to give them a call. My only issue with used is that I rejected a new one with scratches at £2.1k and I'd rather pass than get a secondhand one for the same/more money.

Archemede 'Outdoor' series are nice: https://www.archimede-watches.com/outdoor/

But, if you like the North Flag itself then I'd personally stick with it

Thanks chaps. Hadn't heard of Archimede but they look good too. I think you may be right on the NF. Almost tempted to keep it but I know the scratches (fairly light but obvious when the light catches them) will bug me. I could get a Black Bay from the AD for the same price but have too many dive watches already.

Another thought is to save a chunk more and get an Omega Seamaster Aqua Terra. I know, it's technically a dive watch too.

Will the scratches really bug you forever? I bought an IWC at a massive discount and then noticed a tiny nick which I could only see if I looked for it. Thought about changing it, and then faced up to the fact it would get scratched at some point and £1500 off was more than enough to make up for it. I actually struggle to find the mark now. Although that could be my eyes!

Your probably right and my other watches have a few marks on them, I guess it's the not being perfect from day 1 that bothers me and it's a 40th b'day present. The other part of the issue is that they sent it off for polishing when I rejected it initially so it's almost like these scratches can't be removed which I find hard to believe!

Any watch you wear for any length of time is inevitably going to pick up scratches.

If you like the North Flag, just keep it. Maybe wear it for a while then get it sorted up?

are you able to post a photo of the issues?

Cheers, was thinking of posting some pics. This will sound daft but I got it out again today and I can barely see any of them in normal daylight. I had previously checked in the evening under a spotlight which is clearly not the normal wearing conditions. Given this I've decided to keep it as it really is a lovely watch, will just keep it away from bright lights laugh

Thanks All!

I love mine. It has seen a few knocks but it looks like a watch that should have them. I’m much less precious about it than any others as it feels robust. It’s also incredibly accurate.
