Advice please - as above -Excluding Huawei (no google), Samsung (stty customer service), Amazon (are they ok now?)
The wife is about to start Chemotherapy, and we want to load it up with movies from amazon, disney, netflix etc.
Budget ideally under £200, not too worried about 4g, I guess they all have Bluetooth now?

Many thanks.
Oh and I need it 2mrw smile

Budget and timeframe rules out an awful lot of stuff frown

Gumtree for a second hand Surface Go? Agree about the Samsung customer service, but their tablets are quite good, and better than the noname Chinese ones in budget...

You are cutting your own throat excluding Samsung.
Based on your time restraints, just go down to Currys and buy the biggest your budget allows.
Tablets have hit a plateau and they are all capable of watching movies fine. If you are downloading lots of stuff to the device, you may need an SD card slot.
Bearing in mind what you want it for, I wouldn't piss around bothering with specs and getting the best deal at such last minute.

What's your issue with Amazon? We have various Fires which have been fine barring one subjected to a clumsy 10-y-o that was replaced without quibble under warranty.

My Mrs has a Lenovo 10" tablet, it's not flash or anything but it does what it says on the tin and it's quite light.

Agree with this. I have this Lenovo tablet and use it as a replacement for a laptop. It seems fine, especially with iPlayer, itv hub, Disney plus etc. Has a memory card slot too.

You could get it for £179 but price varies. Check the Lenovo website with a discount code....

Customer service is with the retailer usually isn't it? £159 for the Samsung at John Lewis (or Currys if you want the convenience rather than customer service, which you don't). £110 for the Lenovo, but it isn't full HD.

I got a Amazon Fire 8 HD last year. £40 new. Stuck a big SD card in it. Use it for travel.

Runs pretty slow, but not unusable, and once a film is up and running it plays in HD fine (amazon prime video, nowtv, google videos, local files). I also read books and magazines on it (prime reading mostly). General browsing works find, but is a bit slow.

You can do a simple 'hack' (from very explicit instructions online that anyone could follow) that lets you load Android play store and load any normal android apps (ie you are not forced to stay in amazon land).

It's not perfect, but it avoids the apple/samsung restrictive envirnments and questionable chinese tech. And for £40 if it only works for a year then it's still good value.

You can't beat a good VANKYO.

Doesn't meet the criteria for the OP, but I've just ordered one of these:

Alldocube iPlay 20

For £85 delivered including a case, it seems like it could be a bargain to replace my broken Fire HD 10.

I'm not here for the screen stuff......

I'm here simply to wish your wife and yourself the very best for the future.
