Evening all,

I am being Best Man at my mates wedding. Due to current restrictions, his Mum and Sister will not be able to attend.

He is wanting the ceremony to be streamed from the venue at no additional cost. We don't want dedicated kit so I was tempted to just use Facebook Messenger and my phone to stream this. I will check what my phone is like at the venue before ( mobile data wise) or see if I can hook up to their WiFi.

Anyone see any issues? I presume the sound might be a bit poor without a decent microphone? Any solutions?

My phone is an OPPO Reno, so normally has decent quality video streaming.

Thanks

vaud

It will be poor at a guess... don't risk only a stream - too many variables.

Borrow a camera with reasonable video, a tripod and set it up near the ceremony... then at least you have a stable shot of the event that you can play back to them if the stream fails. Plus you will have a HD+ copy to re-use.

Yep, I think I am in agreement, I need a more secure setup.

I might see if I can setup my EOS-M as a webcam through a laptop. Not sure about additional microphones too?

Thanks

I'd do both. Phone on a mount streaming live.

Camera on a tripod as a high res capture, ideally with an external mic.

However, set up and testing takes time... either way you run the risk of being the well mean ing best man who doesn't record the perfect day in 4k HD perfection.

We did a closed group on Facebook and "went live", run it by the registrars when they get there, they can say no. Meant my family in Australia could watch and worked a charm. Had a little mobile phone tripod thing

It looks like my EOS M is too old to be used as a webcam. frown

So I think you are right.

Use the phone to live stream and then record the ceremony with the EOS M as a back up. I am going to the venue the day before, so I can play with setups beforehand. 4k quality is not a priority.

Now to find a tripod and decent microphone.........

Luckily they have a photographer, but streaming live to the family is my task...... <I might just rely on the phone and have the wife's as a back up???? ..... the pressure smile >

Thanks for all the comments!
