Is there anyone that repairs them, or is it not cost effective and they are scrap once perceived to be duff ?

Apart from a poorly running car, is there a fault test to prove either way ?

Mark Adams at Tornado systems can repair them but also has a shelf full of them. I was there the other week. I think they can be tested my measuring the resistance as the internals are rotated. If the resistance reading isnt a smooth linear increase or decrease then the carbon track is worn.

I think the airflow sensor is the hot wire type. Before spending your hard earned, have a look at this thread about cleaning it.

There are lots of nasty Chinese knock offs on eBay, but I've not heard any horror stories about the ones from Rimmer bros. Part number ERR5198P at £92
